Trump Advocates New Government Program To Handle Tuition Costs
Conservative Review ^ | 2-1-2016

Campaigning in Iowa last week, Donald Trump told voters, the "only way" to bring down tuition rates to affordable levels was through "some governmental program. "

The Washington Examiner reports that Mr. Trump was asked what he would do to help middle and low income Americans "pay their tuition" and "afford books while they're going to school. "

Trump said the following:

"Well the only way you can do it is you have to start some governmental program and you have governmental programs right now," Trump told the moderator during the forum, which was held at a local community college.

"They go, and they work, and they take loans, and they're borrowed up, and they can't breathe, and they get through college and the worst thing is, they go through that whole process and they don't have any job," the billionaire said, referring to the majority of undergraduates enrolled at U.S. colleges and universities.

He continued,"You know the one program that the U.S. makes a whole lot of money with is student loans, and that's maybe the one program they shouldn't be making money with. "

"So we're going to have to start a program," he said. "We're going to do something very big with loans because you have to get these people going. They really feel down and out. "

Addressing the problem of mounting student debt, Mr. Trump further suggested "we're going to do refinancing for people who have loans who literally can't do anything. "

No. The feds can cut their food stamps off entirely.

They can then pay back their loans from what they earn. They’ve been to college, right? The deadbeats can get a real job and pay their way.

The problem is way to many people are going to college who would be better off doing something else.

Fix that, then we can start shutting down the liberal cesspools.

With the internet at your fingertips learning is essentially free. See Kahn Academy.

To get paper saying that you know something you might have to pay. Universities might find a niche in the future as sources of testing and accreditation only.

This did not become an issue until FedGov took over the student loan industry as part of ACA.

Government involvement in both college tuition and health care way predates the ACA. The ACA just made both more expensive.

The intent is to screw up both so badly that the government will just have to take both over totally. Or so the libtards will argue. Because the cure for liberalism's messes is always more liberalism!

Refinancing, which makes sense. Going forward they are going to have to lend college money based on your major. Then again, unless we bring jobs back everything is meaningless. Ugh, just another BS hit piece.

Government should not do what private banks can do.
It was the 'free' government cash that made the tuition go up.
Another government program won't fix that.

Governments always believe they can do everything better than regular folks.
Trump believes he can do everything better too.
If Trump becomes the government, I don't see how that mindset will improve in any way.

Thanks great chart. I plotted out Medicare reimbursement rate and cost of healthcare and saw that as “health care” got less and less for Medicare, cost for everyone else went up (because a hospital charging $1000 for a procedure and getting $500 with lots of overhead costs still has to keep the lights on).

So yeah, government creates a problem then swoops in to fix it.

True. Single healthy people don’t need food stamps.

And, if the feds had stayed out of it, we’ve have fewer single mothers in general.
