Florio: Manning-Brady Debate Would Get New Life With Broncos Super Bowl Victory
CBS BOSTON ^ | 01 FEBRUARY 2016 | CBS BOSTON

Felger & Massarotti were joined by Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio on Monday afternoon on radio row in San Francisco, and he discussed what’s at stake this Sunday in the Super Bowl for Peyton Manning.

“If Manning gets to 2-2 all time in the Super Bowl, Tom Brady’s at 4-2, Manning’s got all the records now, do you have a potentially vigorous debate as to which is the best of all time?” Florio asked. “There’s going to be people out there that throw asterisks on Tom Brady’s championships. That’s one of the beauties of sport, it’s like politics and red state/blue state, people have their minds made up. But I think you give the pro-Peyton Manning people more ammunition when they can say, ‘Yeah, Peyton won two, but he won them fair and square.'”

In Bear Bryant’s book he mentions that the best player he ever coached was John David Crow.

He said the best athlete was Joe Namath. That one did surprise me. I knew he was a great QB but had not heard about his athleticism.

The Packers were champs the year before the Super Bowl started. In 1965, they beat Cleveland with Jimmy Brown, a fabulous running back. The Browns were defending champs and a far better team than anything the AFL would have presented. .

Bart Starr won five NFL championships. The league didn’t just start playing when the Super Bowl began.

In those days, the game was violent, not like the crap we have now.

Most folks remember Namath as a beat-up QB later in his career. But when he was at Alabama he had a rare combination: tremendous arm strength, quick feet, and the keen football sense of someone who had played the game for 50 years.

True. I remember the one where Joe got knocked out cold and left early. He even did a joke on SNL about having a concussion. I used to always say the NFC Championship game was the real Superbowl.

Thank you!

Poor Unitas is getting forgotten lately. Unbelievable. The Man o’War of footballers, should be the Babe of football.

I'm a fan of the shingles commercial. I think the concept of Terry Bradshaw just busting into somebody's house to talk about shingles is pretty funny.

Terry Bradshaw???

Bradshaw to Lynn Swan was perfection. Then came Montana to Jerry Rice.

Manning is good. Brady is better. Manning is someone people can see themselves liking. Brady is only likeable to his fans.

This season, Brady got his team to the AFC championship all by himself. He was the only consistent starter on the offense. Any other QB with the Pat’s O-Line would have been crushed.

We have to wait until they are all done before you can finish the argument.

Manning is a good man.

Brady is a jackass SOB. Looks every bit the smarmy arrogant BMOC jock.

You are just jealous that he has the whole package. That’s OK. He doesn’t need the nerds to help him win.

Oh please. Manning has won one. ONE. He is renown for choking in "the big game" and frankly, Denver doesn't stand a chance against an emerging Carolina team in this game.

I'm not a Patriots nor Broncos fan but an NFL fan. Brady wins purely on the number of times he's been there and the number of times he has won. As a Packer fan, I wish Favre had won one more and I wish Rodgers could get back to the big dance. But, its clear, Manning places second to Brady if we are comparing the two.

Brady. Any other argument is just plain mental masturbation.

Oh spare me the “you’re just jealous” non-argument, standard MO for this kind of debate.

I have no skin in Brady vs. Manning. Raven fan. Even if Manning was a Colt, which should’ve been still in Baltimore, he is a classy guy as well as extremely talented. If anything I had more opportunity to “hate” Manning. He knew it when he came here as a Colt; could feel the hatred.

Couldn’t care less about the Broncos, and FTM, not at all fond of Elway, who dissed our Colts and is kind of a jerk and looks like it, too, like Brady.

I don’t get the “he’s a jerk” stuff. He barely talks to the press. He does little in terms of commercial stuff. Is this about the deflate crap? That is old news, others admit doing the same thing, and he certainly has proven time and again that he is better than just “good.”

Deflate is only the latest.

He yells at his players, puts them down, whines about every push he gets, has deflate and camera-gate on his back (spare me the “everyone else does it!” Klintoon-esque garbage - why is it always NE?), and screws women immorally with a bastard child (again, spare the “everyone does it!” cop-out).

Don’t like him. And he looks every bit the part. I can read people pretty well and he has that squinty eye set and mouth I’ve known too many times (”I’m too cool for everyone else”).

As far as “good”, that wasn’t the question. He’s a great QB, but not a very good man.
