Why not Jim Gilmore? (Vanity)
02/05/2016 | Myself

Jim Gilmore is a natural born citizen however you define it. He was born in America to an American mother and father. So here, Hillary has no chance of disqualifying him. He's quite conservative, pro second amendment, pro national security, anti-abortion, pro free market and anti-crony capitalism, anti-ObamaCare and pro nuclear family. He's a veteran and was the governor of Virginia. I think he's worth a second look.

I think this race is very much in flux and Gilmore can fill the credibility vacuum.

I hear that he’s in it to win it! A dozen folks in Iowa can attest to that.

I see he had a twitter post from the shooting range with some tips for the Media.

Also said something like “Well - I’m proud that I have out-lasted Rand Paul!”

I don’t know much about him, but I can say that he impressed me more than any other candidate in the very first (2nd tier) debate of the campaign season (I forgot where it was). I liked his style and substance. A no-nonsense kind of guy. Not a phony bone on his body.

The President has to lead and leading requires charisma. Some men have it. Others lack it. Gilmore’s lack of traction suggests he is of the latter IMO. He’s just not generating any excitement and I doubt even 25% of the electorate could point him out in a line up.

Jim was a great car dealer, an okay Governor (ended the car tax),but failed at a run for Senate at the same time David Brat was knocking off Eric Cantor. So probably not Presidential material.

Preserving our Second Amendment Rights

“Every state and the District of Columbia will be required to honor the concealed carry permits issued by every other state and DC. There will never be an assault weapons ban during my presidency. As the Constitution says, our Second Amendment rights shall not be infringed.”

The man born in Canada beat your American born candidate with a historic record breaking result versus 12 votes. Good luck with that.

I’ve met Gilmore several times, and he’s just not memorable as a person. I don’t have any major objections to his positions on any issue, and he wouldn’t necessarily be a bad president, just a bad candidate.

He’s a very strong supporter of the Second Amendment, but I remember wondering how he got any votes at all in Virginia and even how he got married. It’s not that there was anything wrong with him, just that I imagined him asking a girl for a second date and her responding: “have we met?”

If there are 13 people in the Gilmore family of voting age, it must have been an awkward moment at the dinner table when the final tally was released. (Of course the number of tallied votes released is not exactly the same number of registered voters in Iowa, so more than 12 actaully did vote for him...just sayin) ;^)

Like I said on another thread (FR Caucus Discussion): “Gilmore is weak on the climate change/”glo-bull” warming/fairy dust issue, but otherwise pretty good.”

Copied and pasted on why he shouldn’t be Vice-President, let alone President.

That would be a poor choice. Gilmore couldn’t carry his own state. He ran for Senator against Mark Warner in 2008 and had the single worst performance as a first-tier candidate in the modern era, getting 1/3rd of the vote (33.7% to Warner’s 65%), and this was an open seat (note that he won both the Governorship and Attorney General offices with 56%, so that performance for Senator was inexcusably horrid). He hasn’t won office in 19 years.

Saying that, I’m sure he’d make a credible Ambassador or lesser Cabinet or government official.

Henwasnour governor from 1998-2002 and a very good one. He lived up to his promise of fighting to end the hated personal property tax and was successful (50% of the way) until the then-democrat controlled legislature stymied him. Gilmore was a steady leader during and after 9/11. He appeared nightly for week with updates on VA’s interaction with the Bush Administration as the country got back on its feet.

I met him in October 2008 during Sarah Palin’s rally in Richmond.. he was running for the retiring John Warner’s senate seat. He comes across like a nice guy and is a strong presence on stage.

Too bad he’s not getting better exposure... I’d vote for him in a heartbeat if he had a chance to make an impact.

And.. as a former Army intel specialist, he’s the only veteran in the race.
