Yes the 227 is a classic DA/SA combo.
I know it’s heresy in some circles, but Glock sucks IMO. Bad ergos. Bit if I was in a situation where I needed a reliable auto that I could throw out the window of a bus it would get the nod.

Well I did once have a French model 35 in .32 French Long. It looks a lot like a P210.
If I had the money to buy a P210, I would get a nice used car instead.
These days I’m more of a shotgun guy. Had an opportunity on a minty broomhandle mauser, but once I watched a youtube on how to disassemble it... never mind.
I have both the p229 and P226 in 9mm and both stainless. Keep the 226. It’s one of Sig’s icons. Personally I don’t like the sharp felt recoil of the 40 cal. Shoot one before you go down that road.

IMO so little difference in size stick with the .226 which is better to carry open anyway. Aren’t those .229’s about $1,200-$1,400.?
As per #3, I think 40mm has CONSIDERABLY more stopping power than 9mm; it is, however, more difficult to carry, unless you have a truck!
It might be a late post but, don’t sell your father’s gun. It’s something to remember him by. Can’t ever replace it.
Shop around for a small 9mm like a single stack springfield xdm.
(Since you already sold your kidney, you could also sell blood plasma to buy a new gun. )
Others have said it already but don’t give up the pistol that came from your father.
A guy ends of missing most of the firearms he sells anyway.
But something that came from your dad...that’s to own forever or to miss and regret for even longer.
You never sell one Sig Sauer pistol for another. You wait until you can afford the P229. Also, I recommend you get the P229 with two barrels. (Approx $150.00 more) One in 40 and the other in 357 Sig. They change quickly and use the same magazines. The 357 is a bit faster out the muzzle but lighter in bullet weight. There are trade offs. I find multiple shots are easier to control with the slower 40 cal but that’s just me.
If you are attached to your dad's P226 (I certainly would be), I don't think it would be worth losing it just to get a P229 if you only want the P229 for carry.
Keep the 226; it’ll never let you down.

I’ve always considered the .40 to be a bit screwy, anyway, plus there’s the sentimental value.
I conceal carry the P220 Carry, SAO, with a Milt Sparks IWB at 5:00.

You may be right, but the FBI re-evaluated calibers and decided on the 9mm, saying it had all the stopping power of the larger calibers, but was more controllable in multiple shot strings.
