Trump swam in mob-infested waters in early years as an NYC developer

As billionaire developer Donald Trump became the toast of New York in the 1980s, he often attributed his rise to salesmanship and verve. “Deals are my art form,” he wrote.

But there is `another aspect to his success that he doesn’t often discuss. Throughout his early career, Trump routinely gave large campaign contributions to politicians who held sway over his projects, and he worked with mob-controlled companies and unions to build them.

Americans have rarely contemplated a candidate quite like Trump, 69, who has become the unlikely leader among Republican Party contenders for the White House. He is a brash, Queens-born scion who navigated through one of the most corrupt construction industries in the country to become a brand-name business mogul.

Considering you just got here a few months ago. You would be more of a suspect to have a “DU handle.”

Another baseless insult. Pointless, however, because Trump has demonstrated his integrity over decades.

He did not have to play in the pigpen. I’m sure there were plenty of businessmen who did not.

If you want to be a developer in NYC you have to play in the pigpen... there's no other way. That's just the way it is there, unfortunately.

Trump is not even a good businessman. He played with his huge inheritance and did not increase it to any extent if at all. We might know more about that if he would release his tax return.

He had fun with women, mobsters and democrats. He got mad at a lot of people and sued them.

But great businessman? No way. Pretty good showman though, gotta admit that.

Who cares. He is not appointing the mob as Secretary of State like BO did.

There you go, deflecting.

Are we talking about JFK, Hillary and Bill?

We know darn well the Kennedy family was the kind of crooked until the Clinton’s came along.

I thought we were discussing Trump’s mob ties.

Nonsense, the Secret Service can easily deal with mafia thugs threatening the President. In fact, Pres. Trump would be in a position to go after the mafia. He has had a life time of dealing with corrupt politicians and the mob; I think he has had his fill of both!

I am not on here using Hillary Clinton’s talking points against the republican front runner and eventual nominee.

So... let me see if I have this straight. Trump is crooked and his closet looks like a Halloween costume shop with so many skeletons.

However, Trump has enough dirt on all the crooked people he dealt with to be able to silence them in exchange for his silence.

It all sounds so honorable.

What’s your DU handle?

Cute. Like Trump - deflect and attack.
(If the messenger is killed, the truth will never get out.)

Like the Trump supporters, do not the Cruz, Rubio, Carson, or Kasich supporters have an equal right to debate the candidates, their history, or their positions as well?

Since when has FR become an authoritarian, brown shirt type state run by Trump supporters?

Again, false, Donald Trump made his first billion dollars in 1985, he did not get his father’s inheritance until 1999

Maybe he secretly invented a time machine?

What is your DU handle?

Well, is it even possible in NYC to not be in contact with them? Not like it is a clean city.

“I’m saying If Trump has nothing to hide, he’d release his taxes. If everything is on the up and up. Then what what are you so concerned about?”

Example: Cruz released a 5 year summary from 2005-2010. Missing are the current years of 2011-2015. Where are they, and what is Cruz trying to hide? And Cruz was immediately attacked because he wasn’t very charitable to churches, even though his old man is a Pastor. Cruz doesn’t tithe, even though he is a Southern Baptist, not even to his own church. Glad you put your tax “summary” out there Teddy, for the media to go over with a fine tooth comb?

The media vultures would find some piddly little thing in Trump’s tax papers as well, and blow it out of proportion of slam him for whatever trivia they decided to make a mountain out of. Cruz just found out what the MSM could do with his little tax filings. Trump KNOWS what they would do with his massive filings.

Trump should hold fast and tell the media and his political enemies to go screw themselves to a wall and give them nothing. They are all a bunch of pond scum.

By the way, Trump has been audited year after year after year by the IRS. If he was hiding something illegal, he would have been in jail already. He passes all the audits. Explain that please, if you are so sure there is something wrong with his tax filings. How has he passed a multitude of audits? And it is obvious the IRS targets him. I hope Trump abolishes the IRS somehow.

“Then he should have no concerns about releasing his taxes if everything is supposedly on the up and up, the way you say.”

I’m still not clear on what a tax return for any candidate would tell you? other than some dumb little morsel for the drive-by’s to prop up the 24/7 cycle..

If I were running for office I would tell them to pound sand.. that’s my private information.. don’t vote for me if you care that much..

If any candidate were in hot water for tax evasion or something then it would be out wide open by the IRS suit.. who cares what a bunch of talking heads bend and twist your legally filed tax returns into..

Deflecting to Cruz now?

His father is a pastor on the fundamental side. You would hear the same sort of thing in any Baptist church in America.

So he bragged on his son. His son is actually worth bragging about.

So is my son. I brag about my son also. I have been known to say, My son, Lee, is the best man in the world and he knows everything. And that is true.

By the way, I was on a thread yesterday that quoted an interview Trump had given in 2012, since you cite something from 2012.

Every Trump supporter on the thread said 2012 was too long ago to bother with.

You must be deaf and/or have a reading comprehension problem. Maybe you have some sort of autism/mental disability that renders you unable to stop perseverating on one thought no matter how wrong, no matter how many times you are told otherwise.

Trump is being audited, he has been advised by his attorneys not to release his tax returns until the audit is complete. Technically, at this point, his tax return can be considered accurate until the IRS signs off on it. The result audit, by the way, could end up in Trump’s favor.

The Wall St Journal reports:

It’s “rare” for an individual taxpayer to be audited every year, as Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump says he has, said John Koskinen, the commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service.

“Usually when there’s an audit, and it’s cleared up, if there are no other issues, it’s a number of years, two or three at least, before you hear from us again, unless something in your next return pops up,” Mr. Koskinen said Friday. “But as a matter of just formal auditing, it would be rare.”

Mr. Koskinen spoke at a taping of C-SPAN’s “Newsmakers” in Washington, which will air on Sunday. The commissioner, who was appointed by President Barack Obama, said that he is prohibited from commenting on specific cases, including Mr. Trump’s.

Mr. Trump said during Thursday night’s debate that he won’t release his tax returns because he is under audit.

“I’m being audited 12 years in a row, at least,” he said. “Now, until that audit’s done, and I don’t think anybody would blame me, I’m not giving it.”

There’s nothing legally stopping any taxpayer from releasing his returns publicly, said Mr. Koskinen.

Mr. Trump may want to avoid fouling up any settlement negotiations he’s having with the IRS. He also may want to avoid disclosure of his actual reported income or open his tax information to scrutiny from the experts who might suggest ideas that IRS auditors hadn’t considered.

Mr. Trump said after Thursday’s debate that perhaps he was audited because he is a “strong Christian.”

“That’s something that would never cause you to be audited,” Mr. Koskinen said. “We don’t care who you are, who you voted for, what party you belong to, whether you go to church, or don’t go to church.”

What's that? I can't hear you. I'm too busy READING the news.

You are defending Trump’s being a crook and a serial adulterer by saying that Hillary and Bill were also?

Well, okay then.
