If you were to draw a Venn diagram of two sets, with one representing male police officers and the other representing fans of “Downton Abbey,” I suspect the overlap would be vanishingly small. Some might consider this unmanly, but I’m proud to admit my membership in that sliver of humanity, and I will be a bit downcast Sunday evening as the show fades to black for the last time. Equally downcast will be Mrs. Dunphy, who perhaps represents a more typical demographic among the millions of people who today wonder how they will spend their wintertime Sunday evenings from now on.

My wife and I love DA. We dvr’d last nights episode and am very much looking forward to watching it with a bottle of wine. We’ll likely buy the set and start at #1 again. A great period accurate show.
Never watched it myself. And for the longest time I thought it was DownTOWN Abby.
I tried watching DA (I really did!) when a relative got the first 3 seasons as a Christmas gift. It just didn’t “take” with me. Besides, the homo kissing scene in the very first episode was a major turn off.
More of my wife’s show than mine. But we watched the past couple of seasons together and they were very enjoyable. Series finale was great if you have been into the show. Can’t say this was my all time favorite, but I was sad to see it end.
Gonna have to find a new wine, cheese, and pretzel night.
I was able to pedict Barrow’s fate about four episodes ago.
Downton Abbey is an historian's dream.
DA was a fantastic program on so many levels. The acting was superb, the costuming was exquisite and the setting was monumental.
We WILL miss the program. I would have liked to see it continue at least until WW2.
I do not claim it was a documentary but it was highly entertaining. Maggie Smith was so freakin funny! Edith surprised us with her eventual growth. To me a good series is one where you care about the characters...this one was it for us.
Now its on to Mercy St. and hope it can be as engaging.
Got it DVR-ed but haven’t watched yet. Truly great show, non-agendized, doesn’t insult your intelligence, isn’t boring. Binged watched seasons 1-3 after having it was recommended by Newt Gingrich of all people. That got my curiosity up; the wife and I have been hooked ever since.
Put it on mute and watch Michele Dockery scenes. Surf the web or read in between.

In interviews the actors talked about the historian who was on set to keep things period correct. They said he was a stickler even on small details.
Julian Fellowes ( a conservative peer) creator of DA has a new series out in the UK called " Dr Thorne", an adaptation of an Anthony Trollope novel. It's getting good reviews in the UK. Not sure if any Channel is picking it up here in the US.

I watched the first week. Of war and Peace on the history channel, waited the following week. For week for it to come on and it didn’t I couldn’t keep up with schedule and missed the rest. But the first episode, was awesome.
But the last three or four seasons I was watching things on my laptop more than the show. I'd occasionally look up and ask her what was going on.
It was the British version of our Sopranos. Not sure which one I will miss the most.
