Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) called GOP frontrunner Donald Trumps charge that Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) was a primary supporter of Chief Justice John Roberts ludicrous and ridiculous.
Gohmert argued that Trump should not be questioning Cruzs judgment on Supreme Court nominations since he has donated to Democratic politicians in the past.
I thought one of the best points made all night long was to point out the hypocrisy, Gohmert, who has endorsed Cruz, told PJM at the Conservative Political Action Conference.
During the most recent GOP debate in Detroit, Trump addressed Cruz directly, saying, So were listening to the all-talk, no-action politician, and he was the primary supporter of John Roberts, who gave us Obamacare.
For Trump to say he was the lead supporter that is a lie. He said before, You put him up there. He was your guy. That was never true. That is a lie, but here again its what Trump does so well, Gohmert said, referring to Cruzs support for Michael Luttig, a former federal appellate court judge.
I mean hes an amazing guy how you can take the strength of Ted Cruz, being his intellect but especially his integrity, and start saying liar liar liar so often and so loud that you have actually attacked a mans strong suit, his integrity. Actually, its doing what Barack Obama and Bill Clinton were the best that I have ever seen in my lifetime that is what psychologists would say is projecting, where they are liars but they project that onto their opponent, he added.
Gohmert, a former chief justice on Texas' 12th Court of Appeals, also criticized Trump for donating to liberal politicians mostly from New York, where his business is located.
Trump has defended the contributions as strictly for business reasons.
I support politicians. In 2008, I supported Hillary Clinton. I supported many other people, by the way. And that was because of the fact that Im in business. I did support very heavily Ronald Reagan. I also supported George Bush, by the way, Trump said.
Following the debate, Politifact rated Cruzs attack on Trumps contributions to Clinton as half true. Cruz said he wrote 10 checks to Clinton. Politifact found that he made 5 contributions to Clintons Senate campaigns over the years but his 2008 election cycle donations were refunded.
You dont have to help liberals destroy the country as part of your business. You can make your business helping the country be stronger instead of making more money by helping people that are destroying it. I mean, the fact that he said it was a part of doing business is actually as much a condemnation as I can imagine, Gohmert said.
Gohmert to Trump: 'You don't have to help liberals' as part of your business
I gotta say in that pic Obama completely PWNDed Clinton.
What have you accomplished in Congress, Louie?
Hitler and Mousolini comparisons didn’t work so they’re going real low and saying Obama and Clinton. Is Satan worse or did they have to skip him?. I may need to study up on mythology for the next comparison - can’t think of anywhere else to go.
Louis is like all the other politicians...all talk and no action.
And even Cruz admitted he campaigned for Roberts.
Louie is the biggest patriot there is in Congress.
He stands on his record, which is pro-life, pro-military, and pro-God.
If we only had him running Congress....
He is a great guy, but what victories has he won for the base?
You need to get more informed, than blabbering such nonsense out.
He was nominated by President Bush in 2005 after the death of Chief Justice William Renquist. So how can Ted Cruz have campaigned for him? Also the justices and that includes the Chief justice are not elected but nominated by the president
BTTT
I used the word “campaign”. I should have said he pushed for Roberts. Have you not heard about his op ed?
I know how Justices are appointed and APPROVED by the senate. I also know there are lobbyists involved and I know that Cruz worked for W and was pushing him to nominate Roberts. Simple facts!
Do you honestly think flying solo can do the winning?
Has he tried, yes.
I have seen is patriotism first hand on a tour of the Capital, which he greatly respects and admires.
I wish all in Congress had his courage to stand against the tide of liberalism.
Oh put a sock in it...ashamed of my fellow Texans
More than that he wrote a gushing editorial saying that he worked with him and could say enough good things about him. He did this in the National Review.
You're simply falling prey to the Trump lies that Gohmert is exposing. president Bush nominated Roberts even though Cruz would have nominated someone else. Bush made the decision. After the nomination Cruz helped Bush get the nomination approved by the Senate. Trump is lying about this.
I always thought Gomert was one of the good guys. I’m so sick of this lose-at-all-costs mentality. We the people are saying NO MORE STATUS QUO.
