Am taking a travel vacation to visit friends up and down the Eastern seaboard. Any tips on what to avoid and not to avoid? Haven't been down that way in years.

Annapolis is an amazing town with an underappreciated historical significance. Stay near the water, and take a walking tour.

I probably ate okra two or three times a week all of my childhood. Mother would freeze a huge amount so we could have it all year.

Actually almost never had it by itself. It was always used to flavor other things. Fried okra and peas makes a delicious meal.

Probably cooked well by people who know what they are doing makes a big difference.

I'll let you in on a little secret about Baltimore... if you're going I-95, you should definitely stop by. I grew up there, and while I moved to Florida 16 years ago and would never move back, I absolutely love to visit my old neighborhood of South Baltimore. It was lower-middle class blue collar when I was growing up, but in the late 90's and early 2000's, it really got gentrified and revitalized.

It's a historic neighborhood to boot, and really captures the magic of an old American city.

Here's a map, it's literally right off of 95, where I'm talking about. Key Highway exit, just South/West of the tunnel.

As someone above mentioned, the Inner Harbor is pretty nice, but also very touristy, whereas this map will take you down Fort Avenue, to Fort McHenry, a very modest laid back (and never too crowded) historic park with some cool stuff to look at, including a living museum mostly focused on the War of 1812. All down Fort Avenue there are great places to eat. If you like steamed shrimp or Maryland style blue crab, L.P. Steamers is right on that street, and I recommend it.

Yes, Baltimore is a joke because of all the libs and riots and other leftist BS, but if you're gonna be on 95, you'd be depriving yourself if you didn't stop by. I can 100% guarantee there is no ghetto or anything to worry about on the path I mapped here, South Baltimore was nowhere close to any riots. I will leave it up to your imagination to figure out why. :)

Here's a street view link to the intersection of Lawrence and Fort Ave, where that map takes you. You can follow it east to get to Fort McHenry.

Wherever you go, have a great and safe trip! The wife and I also love a good road trip. One of the best and most cost-effective vacations you can take is just traveling the road and seeing new places.

I think Tangled recently traveled there (?). Perhaps he or she has some ideas.

Yes! Blue Ridge Parkway and every single Civil War commemorative site you can find. If you’re into history, that is. :)

What a gorgeous part of the country.

See Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire. Eat lobster and buy maple syrup and cheese, and enjoy the scenic coast! Stay in B&Bs, they have great food.

Boston has lots of historical places worth seeing. Walk the Freedom Trail! Cape Ann north of there is worth a visit. Eat more lobster.

See all the sites in DC that you have time for!

North Carolina outer banks are cool. Look for seashells.

Charleston in SC is very pretty. Eat seafood and pecan pie there.

It would help to know what cities or areas your friends live in, so we know those areas, as well as areas you’d be driving through to be able to make recommendations. Also it would be helpful to know how much time you have to spend. There’s an awful lot to see on the “Eastern Seaboard.” Gonna have to pick and choose.

Good map. If you take that route, try south on 2 to Nick’s (on the map south of E. Cromwell.)

I am the last holdout. I use the drive through instead of the ATM, I have a steam-powered cell phone, write checks and have no easy pass.

A couple of places to consider: Annapolis...I was in the army but I was impressed. See the horses/ ponies swim @ Assateague VA. Old Town @ St. Augustine, Fl. Stay @ the restored Casa Monica. Have a beer at the Ocean Deck in Daytona. Check for events https://www.kennedyspacecenter.com/events.aspx, great Sunday brunch:https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g34318-d2365969-r137948897-Seminole_inn-Indiantown_Florida.html, start looking for a good Cuban meal around Palm Beach County, Ft Lauderdale...that would have to be the Elbo Room for people watching- regular sightings of Floriduh Man.

Have a great trip. Sounds fun.
