Am taking a travel vacation to visit friends up and down the Eastern seaboard. Any tips on what to avoid and not to avoid? Haven't been down that way in years.

Lawtey and Waldo are the worst towns.

If you are going to Gainesville (University of Florida) or larger cities South, it is a well traveled road.

I was wondering about that darned ocean. Wish it could be a leisurely sail.

Neat, we have it up here too. I have walked bits but not much. Have friends and acquaintances who are trail maintainers.

If you’re armed, Maryland, not just Baltimore. Check the laws, plan on multiple locked containers.

If you’re traveling long distances through multiple states, consider using I-84 and I-81 instead. If you’re up in Boston and you’re traveling somewhere south of New Jersey, you go west on I-90 (the Mass. Turnpike) to I-84 north of Hartford. That would take you southwest to Scranton, PA. I-81 runs parallel to I-95 from there to Tennessee about 75-100 miles west of the coast, and the biggest city you hit is Harrisburg, PA.

Scrapple is best appreciated well done and served on toast.

I also suggest some pork roll, either as a side dish or sandwiches, available in PA and NJ.

Take in the Amish areas of Pennsylvania, go off the main roads and see the beautiful farms, buggies, etc. Watch out for horse drawn vehicles, and enjoy some delicious food.

I’m from NYC and I love it - but it’s gotten seriously worse since De Blasio took over. However, in general you’d be okay there and there’s a lot of things to see. My advice is to stay outside, in Newark, for example, and just take a train or shuttle into the city and spend the day touring. The Circle Line (boat tour around the island) is nice and then you could always take one of the bus tours. But whatever you do, don’t try to drive and park there!

Also, another place I like (I’m not sure where you’re starting from) is Havre de Grace in Maryland. Great little seafront town, and I had the best mussels EVER there!
