I’ve seen a few of those “portable” 3/4 and a 1 inch or two in storage years ago at the public TV network I was at.

Every now and then I cranked up the the U-Matics. I used the Ampex AVR quads more but not by much.

Hope to never hear this and a billion other 60s and 70s songs ever again.

Ironically, your screen name is a great '60s song.

A popular song when my husband and I started dating. It brings back fond memories.

The End of the World--Skeeter Davis (1962)

It is said that this song may have been inspired by the Cuban Missile Crisis, which took place a few weeks before it was released.

She is the finest female pop vocalist I have ever heard.

She had a great contralto voice.

My favorite female singers include Vera Lynn, Vaughn De Leath, Aileen Stanley, Jane Green and Ruth Etting.

Not the style I was talking about. Put my comment in the proper context of the style of the Carpenter’s kind of music.

I'm about to make your day:

Carpenters - We've Only Just Begun - Acapella (near)

Carpenters - Superstar - Acapella (near)

Carpenters - Rainy Days And Mondays - Acapella (near)

Her voice stands perfect even with (nearly no) accompanying instruments.

I'd probably have hit that, but she was a little fat.

I didn't know that it could have been inspired by the Cuban Missile Crisis. She's from my era, but somehow I never heard of her or remember hearing her. I'm not a country fan, but now and then there will be one I like.

I got tired of coding links, but you picked the one I always listen to (I did describe the feature photo). Some versions of the same song and singer are better than others on yt.

Mine too. Amazing vocals. Haunting melody.

I saw The Carpenters in concert when I was in Jr High. The opening act was Steve Martin. Talk about contrasts!

Our local PBS has been playing a 90-minute documentary on the Carpenters - highly recommended.

“Superstar” easily my favorite...and makes me think she was singing the song to Eric Clapton.

For any audiophiles out there, here’s a 24-bit/96K Hi-Resolution FLAC download:

Easily the best sound quality and close to master tape.

I found this one; it's a must if you want to know how their talent developed. From New Haven until after Karen's death with Richard. It includes how Richard discovered over-dubbing and multi-tracks with Les Paul and Mary Ford. Karen develops on the drums. The voice comes along with the drums but a little later. Richard changes his piano style to playing by ear. People in their lives. And so on.
