A “large number” of doctors in certain EU member states still view homosexuality as a disease, a report has revealed. Euroefe reports.
“The research also shows that there are still quite a number of healthcare professionals in several EU member states who believe LGBT people suffer from pathological diseases,” said Michael O’Flaherty, the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA).
A recent FRA report found that Bulgaria, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Poland and Slovakia are the EU countries where this misconception is most widely held.
This negative view of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people held by groups of professionals like doctors and politicians is a barrier to efforts to end discrimination and stop hate crimes, according to the report. …

Psychology and Psychiatry have always had a tenuous hold on claims they were sciences with the standing of Chemistry and Physics. On the scale of intellectual rigor, their research more often resembles alchemy and/or oral history, and seldom, if ever, approaches the determinism found in a Chemistry laboratory.
In line with my developing understanding of Quantitative Methods this psychology professor maintained statistics should enable psychology/ psychiatry to a least determine there is a marginal or significant propensity for a particular disorder and its treatment. Careful studies could have identified and graded methods of treatment. Given persistence in searching for correct methods of analysis, even accumulated episodic events could be sifted for transformation into valid information. Research would have proceeded more slowly and conclusions would have been less intuitive, but more stable. The disciplines would more often have adhered to the medical principle of "first of all, do no harm". Responsible research should also acknowledge those pesky humans, who in spite of their genetics and upbringing, decide to live positive lives without APA professional help.
Instead, Psychology and Psychiatry have chosen to abandon all pretense of scientific rigor in exchange for popular societal and political acclaim. The barriers erected to meaningful research about homosexuality remind me of Genesis 3:23-24. In these verses the Lord God banished humanity from the Garden of Eden and placed an angel in the Garden to keep humanity away forever. By their actions, Psychology and Psychiatry appear content within their own Garden of Eden. They seem to consider the accouterments of a religion to be more attractive than those of a science. The under-voting and public attacks support the understanding that the DSM is as likely to accumulate political manifestos and marketing brochures as attempted scientific expositions.
Psychology and Psychiatry have chosen to relinquish scientific rigor for popular societal and political acclaim. With studies concerning homosexuality freed from objective analysis, advocates for social justice rely upon base antidotal politics to dominate debates.

Regardless, homosexual activity is not what the human body was biologically designed for. Those with this inclination certainly have thought processes that are not aligned with nature, but one must be compassionate with people who face this difficulty. Love the sinner and hate the sin, from a Christian perspective.

Even if there is a homosexual inclination, the choice whether or not to give in to it is still there. It's not like there's a genetic component telling a gay person "have sex or die".
I think you might be imagining that a gay person is just a heterosexual person with "homosexual inclinations". I don't think this is accurate. There are undoubtedly lots of such people. But there are obviously also those who are 100% gay, which appears to be an innate, basically unchangeable condition. Homosexuality may be a disease but it does not appear to be curable.

What percent of heterosexuals would be OK with completely repressing their sexual instincts? Even those who take vows of chastity seem to frequently have great difficulty with this.

I think that you are confusing the reporting of how people lived with approval of what they were doing. David was expressly told not to “multiply horses or wives”. He did both. His son Solomon exceeded him in doing both. David committed adultery with Bathsheba and then set her husband up to be killed. Moses murdered an Egyptian who was beating a Hebrew. Virtually every hero in the book has feet of clay or did something horrible. The Bible is somewhat unique among ancient manuscripts in reporting the great failings of its protagonists.
