Why Short Men Come Up Short

Spurned by women, more likely to end up in jail, doomed to earn less, destined to languish in poorly paid jobs, plagued by feelings of inferiority and coming up short where coming up matters most, you’d think life had dealt the short straw to short men. And maybe it has.

As a short male,/src on/I say SMASH HEIGHTISM!./src off/I think part of the correlation between wages and height is height is a proxy for a low socioeconomic background, height being caused by malnutrition. The most salient fact for being short is you basically don't exist in public spaces. The major advantage is no problem sitting in cramp airline seats.

I believe it’s Japan where the taller you are, the better you do.

I like to think that hard work and determination combined with good values and ethics will see a guy through. Then again I am 6’2, so perhaps I’m height privileged. I thought I was already over doing being a white Christian male. How do I make amends for all this?

So what is the definitive size reference for a “short male”?

Less than 5’5”?

5’5” would represent the 20th percentile in the US, 20% of adult are that height or less.

My cousin’s brother-in-law is a financial guru in the area and he and his wife are both under 5’ 3” tall. He may be even shorter than that. A story I was told is that they were visiting my aunt and uncle and my cousin couldn’t help but notice how his brother-in-law’s feet were inches from touching the floor as he sat in one of non-reclining chairs in the den as they watched a U of M game, wearing his U of M jersey with a mini football in his lap.

I have read the average height for a male is 5’9”. Every male in my family is 5-8 inches over that mark. I believe average for women is 5’4”.

Is it just me, or is every male of this latest generation who is at least 17 years of age at least 6’ tall? I did my growing up in the 70’s, and back then guys ran the gamut in height from short to medium to tall. Nowadays, it seems virtually all of them are tall. Must be something in the water...
