Ex-Navy SEAL Who Says He Killed Bin Laden Charged With DUI
ABC News ^ | Matt Volz, AP

The former Navy SEAL who says he fired the shots that killed Osama bin Laden was arrested Friday on a drunken driving charge after police found him asleep in a car parked at a convenience store in his Montana hometown.

Customers at the store in Butte called police to report a sleeping man behind the wheel of the running car around 2:30 a.m., Butte-Silver Bow County Undersheriff George Skuletich said. The officer who responded woke the man up, identified him as Robert O'Neill and noticed odd behavior.

"He was confused. His actions were consistent with somebody who might be under the influence of something," Skuletich said.

Whether the prosecution is vindictive or for revenue, it’s immoral to charge someone for doing the right thing. I hope he opts for a jury trial. I’d vote not guilty (and I do NOT approve of a SEAL talking about his missions).

This sort of abuse of police powers encourages drunks to try to make it home if it’s too cold to sleep in the car without it running.

A lawyer will tell you to avoid a non-moving DUI, move to the passenger seat.

A non-moving DUI charge???....they did not exist 15-20 years ago. Its all about sucking guys into the judicial system so that numerous gov't salaries can be paid. Plus hooked in whores aka lawyers.

The question was how could he be charged with DUI,....Legal def. of ‘Driving” is being in control of a motor vehicle (a classical dichotomy of terms right there). If you have the keys and are in the vehicle, it is under your control, moving or not.

> You cannot be drunk and behind the wheel of a vehicle with the keys in the ignition, much less with the car running. That is DUI.

That could contested in court by any competent attorney. If the car is running I'd say it's a slam dunk. If its not running and he's parked in front if a store that sells alcohol, it could be contested.

I wonder if we'll ever disagree on anything, Mr. Wardaddy?!

MADD has created a mad world. In it, a man sleeping quietly in his car is driving drunk and people who accidentally hit a vehicle or run over a person drive away because they see a lifetime in prison.

When I was a kid, if someone accidentally hit a child (I was that child), the person stopped and waited for police. No breathalyzers, no hysterics (if the kid had nothing more than a bruised knee or a black eye - I was that child) and life went on without lawsuits.

With all the laws these days, they’ll get you if they want you. Drunk driving is bad, preemptive laws are worse. Cause harm, prosecute, otherwise leave me the f*** alone!

John Basilone liked to party and bang hot women and boy did he get access

Can you imagine a local cop arresting him for anything short of a high ranking felony

It’s the climate of the mind in America today

Nannies

Right. If he were parked on his own private property, he might have been OK

Why is he even driving in the first place? Dude should have his own limo service taking him anywhere he wants to go.

I pass Basilone’s statue every so often to pay homage to the bad ass. Raritan has a parade every year in his honor.

A few cops never pass up a chance to show their stupidity.

A few are known as “buddyfuck*rs”, i.e. they won’t give a fellow law enforcement officer a break for an unintended mistake, esp. in Maryland (Montgomery County and/or State Police).

My son was a federal police officer and a very good one. I know whereof I speak.
