Hmmm.
Texas: Mexican

California: Mexican
Hawaii: Bakeries (Chinese #2)
Interesting patterns...

I’d question any food study of Illinois that does not mention breaded tenderloin sandwiches. They are extremely popular here.

Previous generations were not on low carb diets and they did not have have the weight problems we see today. Pizza is not the enemy. A sedentary lifestyle and overeating are more to blame.
When my wife and I raised our kids (70 - 80s), we had a pretty lousy diet that included Taco Bell and McDonalds. But we ate small portions compared to today, and we were very active. No weight problems.

From pizza to sandwiches and baked goods, we can’t get enough.
Today I had pizza (with salami), a sandwich (tuna) and baked goods (banana bread).
Also two of these...

One day I will be rich enough to eat pizza Donald Trump style: with a fork, so I can eat only the toppings and cheese, not the bread so it’s low carb.

These statistics do not indicate favorite foods at all, they only indicate the most frequently purchased restaurant food. Pizza is among the cheapest meals to eat outside of the home, ditto for Mexican food.
