The most popular food in every state

Despite peaking in popularity in the early 2000s, low-carb diets remain a staple of the fitness and nutrition industry. However, these diets have not abated America’s love of carbohydrates.

The health of the country hurts because of it — obesity rates are still rising — but the data show that the country’s most popular foods continue to be the most carbohydrate-laden.

From pizza to sandwiches and baked goods, we can’t get enough.

Using the most recent 2014 estimates from the American Community Survey and Dun and Bradstreet, the experts at FindTheHome discovered the most popular food in every state. The food type with the highest density per 100,000 people is considered the most popular. Pizza is the fan favorite in most states, with baked goods and Mexican food taking the lead in many others. Previously, FindTheHome used the same data providers to find the pizza capital and bakery capital of every state.

Agave is, shall we say, an acquired taste, that's for sure! Good for tequila, though... Heh.

By syrup, I assume you mean the REAL McCoy? ;-)

Flavor = fat, sugar, salt. Everthing else is a condiment.

“I’d question any food study of Illinois that does not mention breaded tenderloin sandwiches. They are extremely popular here.”

For good reason.

And no Italian Beef sammiches?

Nori.

If you had two things you have Spam being popular, US military bases, a tendency to eat pork.

You have both of those things in Hawaii.

I’d question any food study of Illinois that does not mention breaded tenderloin sandwiches. They are extremely popular here.

Popular in Indiana and Ohio as well. I think it likely has to do with the number of Germans that settled in these areas. Rouladen made with pork instead of beef.

The ordering of the States must have been derived at a bar.

Looks balanced to me. Has every food group — grains, fruits (tomatoes), vegetables (if you add pepper or some onion), meats, dairy, etc. Same could be said for tacos.

One day I will be rich enough to eat pizza Donald Trump style: with a fork, so I can eat only the toppings and cheese, not the bread so it’s low carb.

Why do you say that?

Is it because bread and wheat are increasingly genetically modified these days? Or is there another reason?

Without bread and wheat, what is the preferred method for getting your grains? Breakfast cereal maybe?

These statistics do not indicate favorite foods at all, they only indicate the most frequently purchased restaurant food. Pizza is among the cheapest meals to eat outside of the home, ditto for Mexican food.

“Rouladen”

Had to look that up. Looks wonderful. Too bad I have to do some serious driving to find a good German restaurant.
