Oh, he had backups. Problem is, they were mounted before he ran the script. So they were removed also.

Bwahahahahahaha!!!

All servers got deleted and the offsite backups too."

Some mistakes you only make once in life ... not having a development server separate from your live server is one of them.

“Make sure you back up your important data offline.”

Old lady here with not an ounce of important date to my name-——but what does it mean to “backup data offline?

its not gone but he is going to have to pay some one that knows what they are doing to retrieve the info. my guess is that he was looking for an easy cheap fix there is none if I am understanding the explanation for what is happening.

A server computer that is not connected to your network, and can only be accessed manually, like connecting a cable, then disconnect when you’re done backing up.....................

Used to be tapes - long reels of magnetic tape.

Then cartridges not unlike the old 8-track (sorta).

The hard drives that you could pull (various methods of storage). Basically computer disks.

Some are transmitting data to other places for storage in case of disaster.

Recovering from that action is easy. You fill out a job application. Turn it in at your local McDonald’s. And never, ever take a job with responsibility again.

If offsite backups are available online, they aren’t backups.

They are simply copies.

“but what does it mean to “backup data offline?”

Keep it on a disk or flashdrive that is NOT connected to any computer. That way it can’t be erased, and you can load it onto a computer again any time you want.
