If Cruz doesn't get 1237, he shouldn't be whining.
If Trump doesn't get 1237, he shouldn't be whining.
>> OK, so you just made my point. You don’t think someone can make up 7-10 points in 7 months??? <<
Yes... if the public is fairly indifferent towards or unfamiliar with someone... like Reagan was, for instance. But Trump is wildly unpopular. According to ABC’s poll, for instance, 53% STRONGLY disapprove of Trump. Now, if your disapproval ratings are over 50%, and people aren’t crazy about your opponent, you can still win an election. But when 53% strongly disapprove, than means a majority REALLY dislikes you... you can’t win. Ted’s strong disapproval ratings are TWENTY points less than Trump. That matters.
>> all you’ve been able to do, for weeks, is spout Establishment/Media/GOPe propaganda <<
By that definition, everyone who isn’t part of the Trump movement is part of a giant conspiracy against him.
Ask yourself this:
Trump is to the left of Cruz on immigration, abortion, taxes, regulation, socialism, etc. Why do you think the GOP “establishment” would be lying, cheating, etc., to help Cruz beat Trump? Keep in mind, this is Ted Cruz, we’re talking. The reason he’s so hated in the Senate is because he shut down the government for weeks. And yes, Trump claiming it’s because Cruz is obnoxious is just an example of how mean-spirited the Trump campaign is.
So why do you think that this grand conspiracy exists to help Trump beat Cruz?
Couldn’t it be just possible that a LOT of the local party people are terrified that Trump is about to destroy the best chance to get a real conservative elected for the first time since Reagan?
Yeah, the K-Street crowd pollutes the minds of Congressmen; just look at the dire predictions that Cruz cost the Republicans the Senate in 2014. How’d they turn out? But the Trump definition of “the establishment” reaches down to 2012 delegates, the precinct captains, etc.
These delegates are the people who changed the rules after Romney won precisely to demand delegates vote for the person they are pledged for. (Colorado got rid of their straw poll because they refused to follow that rule, because last fall they voted that they didn’t want to be bound on March 15 to a candidate who may not be still in the running later when they have their convention.)
They are the people who demanded that early-voting states couldn’t be winner-take-all states, because they didn’t want a replay of John McCain and Mitt Romney where a guy who had a small plurality took every vote.
And yes, they didn’t want party insiders to win the nomination with a small plurality based largely on name recognition. They didn’t imagine that the guy with the best name recognition would be the outsider candidate.
These people aren’t conspiring to keep some great reformer from winning the nomination. They ARE, however, scared that some liberal in wolf’s clothing with no track record of doing anything for conservatism is about to use a small plurality to do a hostile takeover of the party, and prevent the Republican Party from having an electable conservative.
Regarding the Colorado debacle, here is a post linking to a Denver Post article dated August 25, 2015. Things were put into place by the GOPe to Stop Trump last year.

Serious answers from a Cruz supporter: Answer to first question: no, not really a great way to win. Trump’s campaign losing steam & Cruz winning before the convention would be my preference, but if it doesn’t happen, does Cruz stop being my favorite? No.
Answer to 2nd question: the same way Trump or anyone else would beat Hillary - by winning the required number of electoral votes (& possibly by litigating election fraud as needed). Can it be done? No idea. Can anyone beat Hillary? No idea. Will Hillary be the one to beat in the general - will she survive the email scandal & any others that may pop up? Will there be a viable 3rd party candidate? We don’t know yet. Time will tell.
