Nothing Changed Yesterday—And Trump Is Still Not on the Path to Nomination
National Review ^ | 04/20/2016 | Jeremy Carl

Posted on 04/21/2016 8:20:11 AM PDT by Responsibility2nd

Before we begin debunking, let’s start with the obvious: It was undoubtedly a good night for Trump and unsurprisingly so, as NR’s Henry Olsen predicted on election eve.

Trump looks to have taken 90 delegates and 60 percent of the vote, somewhat better than projections, although most election-eve forecasts had him taking at least 85 or so of New York’s 95 delegates (Olsen had him pegged for 87).

But despite his victory, Trump got only a very modest bump from New York last night. And despite the breathless TV and print commentary from our New York–centered media, he still faces huge obstacles if he wants to get a sufficient number of delegates to be nominated on the first ballot. And if he is not nominated on the first ballot, given Cruz’s wildly successful delegate strategy, it is unlikely he will be nominated at all.

In fact, according to the analysis of the widely-respected 538.com, Trump actually fell just short of the number of delegates he needed in New York to put himself on the path to the magic number of 1,237.

And, though he should have a good week next week when Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island vote, he will need a New York–level performance, not just a victory, if he wants to substantially improve his nomination odds.

New York and the five states voting next Tuesday are all part of the Democrats’ “blue wall.” Democrats have won all of these states in each of the last six elections. Only one of these states (Pennsylvania) has given more than 45 percent of its vote to the GOP candidate in any of the last six elections. New York and Rhode Island have never even given 40 percent to GOP candidates during this time.

Those pictures look like the aftermath of Jonestown.

And nobody jokes about Jim Jones and Jonestown...the punchlines are too long.

So St. Ted does better than expected in WI and it’s “THE RACE HAS CHANGED” but Donald of Queens does better and it’s “NOTHING HAS CHANGED.”

Interesting double standard.

That’s all this primary has been from the beginning to now, why change now?

It is interesting that Cruz and GOPe activities in Colorado, ND, and WY has really shifted the sentiment of the voters. In Georgia last weekend’s shenanigans really hit home. Several former Cruz supporters are not happy about the tactics of the Cruz campaign and have shifted support since those internal delegate tactics robbing the voters of their vote.

As badly as the DC power clingers despise and mock Trump, it has to infuriate them that not one republican in the world can neither slow down or stop him from garnering millions of votes more than all the comers. The pundit know it alls said he could only get 20% of the vote. Then they said about a third. Then they said 40% max. In New York he hit 60.2% and will mow down both Cruz and Kasich next Tuesday with over 50% of the vote.

The PUKEneocon Review ?

Look at their last 10 issues. They have endorsed every open borders traitor Republican they could find. Now Cruz is on the cover because he is their last hope.

LOL!

Yes from Trump himself. He was asked the question and answered “yes”. This was on the FOX morning show. They asked his person there if she knew how he defined “wealthy” and she did not know. I don’t have it in writing If I find it I will send it to you or post it.

Actually in NY a third of the voters are Independents not Democrats.

Trump needs to win them over to have a shot at carrying his home state in November.

Without them, its not possible.

Colorado?

I didn’t vote for Cruz here. Party bigwigs gave Cruz all the delegates.

COGOP didn’t ask for my input.

Yes, ma’am I’d appreciate that if you do find it in writing. I support Donald Trump and am highly interested in his positions, especially tax related. Hope your day is great. Weather here is grey and overcast but not complaining! It could be snow.

What I want to know is just how much you and Kaslin are being paid by NR to post all their crap here? Is there a new car, a free trip to Vegas , or a “date” with Dana Loesch or Katie Pavlich in the offing for your taking up all this bandwidth here on FR?

At this point, the GOP Establishment's choices are 1) to accept that Trump is going to be the nominee or 2) to put the fix in so blatantly that a large percentage of Trump voters will turn their backs on the party, at least through November and perhaps permanently.

Option 1 at least gives them a chance to salvage Congress (saving the Senate in particular is going to be tough, given that Team Red is defending many more seats than Team Blue this cycle).

Was Linus looking for a magic pumpkin? A little Rusty on my Peanuts knowledge.

The Trump haters at NR are hoping for some magic that will turn the voters away from Trump, but it won’t happen.

I’m starting to believe that concerned citizens throughout the United States are beginning to evaluate the Trump platform. Jim Robinson illustrated the many positive positions that many American’s favor. Immigration....Trade...Corporate tax reform.....Budget cuts and control by using the “Penny Plan” and cutting out many of the bureaucratic departments like Energy and Education....Re-build the military....defeat ISIS....provide for our Vets......Limit Refugee admittance until proper vetting safeguards are guaranteed.

This list above is just a partial glimpse of the direction that Donald desires. I would be willing to bet that almost all of these issues will be supported by 55 to 60% of the voting public.
