Prince's closest friends and family members gathered for a private memorial service at Paisely Park on Saturday, a day after his body was cremated. A sea of purple marked the occasion, with many guests opting to wear the star's favorite color as they celebrated his life. Close friends such as Damaris Lewis, Sheila E, band member Hannah Welton and husband Josh Welton as well as others were spotted entering the property around 2 pm today. They were greeted by security as they made their way into the studio for the service. And at one point in the afternoon extended family members including his only full sibling Tyka Nelson exited the studio to greet fans of the late rock star and to hand out memorabilia in purple gift boxes.
Arangements of purple flowers and catered food were also delivered to the late legend’s home in Chanhassen, Minnesota, earlier in the day before relatives and friends joined together for the intimate event. Prince's body was quietly released to his family just after 1pm Friday after a four hour autopsy at the Minnesota medical examiner’s office in Ramsey. With his sister Tyka, her son Prez and another member of the family present, the legend's body was cremated at the First Memorial Western Chapel in Minnesota. His body arrived around 2pm on Friday and the cremation began an hour later. His family waited four hours to be presented with the casket containing his ashes. Because Prince is a Jehovah's Witness he had to have funeral services carried out within a week of his death

I think the problem will be who supplied the drugs in the quantity he is said to take. He did not have doctors to prescribe them.
I dislike speaking ill of the dead, and so should not have engaged in speculation. I don’t have any reason to believe that the cause of his death will be concealed. If there was anything untoward going on, I assume there will be attempts to get to the bottom of it. Prince was a multi-talented musician, and I enjoyed his music very much at one point in my life. Still do, to an extent. It’s sad that he’s passed on and at a relatively young age. We’ve lost a great talent, but he was flawed and human just as we all are. I’ll just leave it at that, as I should have all along.
In a music related story I read that guitar legend Lonnie Mack has died at age 74.

There was an autopsy and I believe a toxicology report is forthcoming. An odd way to try to hide something, if so.

Given the story out of GA a few years ago about a crematory that just kind of stacked up the bodies all over its property instead of doing the cremations, one is better off attending as it happens. Still not sure I’d want to attend; even at burials I’ve been to, the mourners leave before the casket is actually put into the ground.
IIRC, Jews are to be buried before sunset on the day of death, or possibly the next day. It goes back, one assumes, to biblical times and the rapidity within which bodies decompose. (I think Jews can’t be embalmed, either). A few other religions have adopted those death/burial rituals. Catholics couldn’t be cremated until the past few decades. All religions have some quirks about their departed.
Prince was a major drug user. Now the drug dealer can now sell Prince to fans so they can snort Prince.

I have been to funerals that the caskets lowered and people threw in flowers and ones that the casket is left to be buried.
Privately would be accurate - unless you're a "News" person who missed a chance to intrude....
Orthodox Jews cannot be embalmed, and must be buried within 24 hours of death. Technically they aren’t even supposed to be buried within a vault (the body is to return to the earth), so the vault is instead inverted and lowered over the coffin after entombment.
My daughter asked me why the Prince story is still carpet bombing in the media while Merle Haggard (obviously a much more significant music figure) just kind of slipped away.
My answer was “Merle was white”

Some do. Years ago a friend’s mother (Catholic) died; at the cemetery the final rites, akin to a graveside service, were held at the crematory.
In Hindu culture the eldest son is to light the torch to a parent’s funeral pyre; the adaptation I’ve heard of in the West is that he is allowed to press the start button on the cremation retort.
I notice that when the talking heads ask other musicians & celebs what they think of the death of Prince...those musicians & celebs are black.
Their influence is a matter of opinion and up for debate. Prince, however, was more modern, a product of the "MTV age" and of more interest to a larger, more media focused fan base.
Pre-Vatican 2, cremation was forbidden for Catholics. Now, almost every Catholic I know is cremated. I’m sure $$$ is a major factor in that decision. Used to be the wake was 3 days, but now IF THEY HOLD ONE, it’s a single night. (of course a certain ethnic group - of which I am one - was known to stand the ‘stiff’ up to join in the party)
The average Hausfrau didn’t know who Merle Haggard was.
