Cowboyway Opus
4/28/2016 | Cowboyway

Posted on 04/28/2016 8:36:16 PM PDT by cowboyway

The year was 2012. Zero was running for reelection and the Repubs desperately needed a better candidate than they fielded in 2008 if they were going to regain the White House.

As usual, Freepers were posting articles and comments about the upcoming election, the candidates running for the Republican nomination, how to defeat Zero, etc. During the primary season of 2012 Free Republics owner enthusiastically campaigned against one of the candidates, Mitt Romney. If the only information that you had about Romney was what FR's owner posted you would have had to conclude that Romney was pure evil concentrated. However, when Romney was nominated to run against Zero, FR's owner reversed course and got behind the nominee.

I became disappointed in what I perceived as extreme hypocrisy from the head of the premier conservative forum on the internet and quietly left the site for several years.

With the 2016 campaign season being free of Zero and shaping up to be one of the more interesting campaigns of our maturing republic I found my password and logged back in hoping to engage in interesting, civil and conservative dialog. Everything looked the same but there was a different feel to the place. A lot of anger, a lot of fear and a lot of hatred of conservatives for conservatives.

I do not particularly like Mr. Trump and expressed my opinion on the subject. Of course that resulted in being attacked with reckless abandon by the Trump faithful. When I retaliated I quickly earned a couple of timeouts and limited posting privileges, in other words, second class membership, while those who attacked me continued posting their vicious slanders against anybody and everybody that wasn't on board the Trump Train. The double standard couldn't be more obvious.

Then, on 4/23/16, the owner of the site pledged total support to Mr. Trump believing that Trump is the only path to victory over the presumed democommie candidate, Hillary Clinton, regardless of the fact that Trump is not a conservative. Freepers who openly refused to pledge their support for Mr. Trump were quickly purged with Trump's exuberant peanut gallery fearlessly and gleefully shouting insults and catcalls for all non-Trump supporters to 'ride the lightning'.

Welcome to Trump Republic.

Opus over.

Cowboyway out.

I may be close behind.

Erstwhile friends have made their vitriol extremely personal and I am not willing to engage in that behavior.

Everyone was a Cruz supporter, including JR and now Trump is the anointed one.

Say one thing off the reservation and you get blasted.

It’s old, boorish and something I expect from my friends who are Democrats.

What? No one can have an opinion around here anymore without the whole thing turning into some debased concepts?

I’ve taken to spouting non-sequitors and non-plus comments with my friends on the left, who claim I want to argue, when I think we are exchanging ideas and having some intellectual discourse

Nope. I’ve upset their universe and now suddenly this universe here at FR.

Well, that fine.

Nothing is permanent

Cruz is a liar. Trump is the path to the light.

For instance, you claim that Trump is not a conservative...

I think it's boiling down to "He isn't people like us".

GOP disunity kept a couple f million of people home in 2012 and Romney lost as a result

Everyone blames it on a lack of unity, on evangicals staying home.

But maybe Americans just didn't want Mitt Romney,
no matter how much some people (even now) wish differently.

This exemplifies the acute emotional Cruz attachment here and elsewhere I guess

Cruz is 45

It’s likely not his last rodeo

I used to really like the guy but now his persona just doesn’t look good under these lights in this sort of race....in fact he comes across horrible and desperate for this shot at the ring

Trump for all his flaws seems much purer of motive

His detractors will say it’s strictly ego

His supporters like me will say it’s because he thinks he can really fix things

At least when Neil Warren did it yesterday—dude, that’s the founder of eHarmony.com. Knowing he’s bailing was important.

Neil E. Wright is not the founder of eHarmony. The founder of eHarmony is Neil Clark Warren. Even so, I'm not sure why that would be important to me, as a voter.

I don't know that Donald Trump will beat Hillary.
But many pissed off Americans really want him for their next president.

Meanwhile Cruz is losing in the primaries.
It's not because Donald Trump is magically making it so.

Cruz is losing because Americans are rejecting him.
And if he can't win with the regular joes and janes of America, he's done.

They don't want cruz.

No amount of delegate mumbo jumbo is going to make Americans vote for cruz on election day, when Americans don't want him.

And Hillary's gang can cheat much better than Mitt Romney and the republican party.

BTW Cruz selecting Carly Fiorina for his vp was a really stupid move imo.
Because the people didn't want her either.

I am not a Trump supporter.
I am not a Cruz supporter.
I will vote for Trump in the General.

Your premise is way overblown. I hold out two examples:
Libbylu was given multiple chances and continued to post garbage and insults.
Lord Wright personally insulted JR on more than one occasion.

IATZ.

Not as drastic as you claim unless you have pushed a few extra buttons and tweaked a few extra noses.

if nothing else, we should have learned fro 2 terms of Obama that we need to realize it when reality arises and then do what gives us the best chance to accomplish the real goal. Standing behind a loser, who has done it to himself, and rejecting the first true outsider on a double coon's age would only help Hillary (I hear she's cutting Cruz's campaign checks to help him topple the guy the voters say they want).

Perhaps you ain't been paying attention - the Cruz regime (I started out as a dues paying member) began the slime attacks and belittling deal and haven't let up - the folks being attacked decided to swat back and as it turns out, they had more viable facts and data to use in retaliation - they didn't/don't have to twist things and make false assumptions in order to make their arguments. Cruz has toasted himself and is working actively to thwart the People he claims to be champion of. He has made some outrageous statements/retractions of statements which indicate he will leverage even the slimiest crap if he thinks it will help him. He's getting more venal about it as he now denies that he and Kasich had any sort of relationship/deal in trying to take down Trump - something that both desperately need to happen. Going the sex-pander route with Fiorina was bad enough - he has crashed and burned his own plane and we want to have a chance of keeping the worst person out of the WH for a damn change.

Yippee ki-ay cowboy...

I don't think so. Do you have many links ?

What a prima donna. You fail on several levels:

As bad as Romney is, Obama is far worse.

FR went ahead and supported the 2012 GOP nominee, in the spirit of unity against Obama.

Mitt subsequently never took the fight to Obama the way he did to others in the 2012 primary.

The same Mitt is now willing to destroy the 2016 presumptive nominee, Donald Trump, and the GOP in the process.

Cruz is willing to go along with that gambit in the remote hope that the GOPe will grant him the nomination.

The GOPe considers Cruz evil personified, yet is pushing him as their stalking horse against Trump. So who are the real hypocrites here?

Trump has staked several very conservative positions, and wants to pull back the GOP from some very stupid positions that have hurt this country.

Trump has expanded the appeal of the GOP, something the Republican leadership has failed to do for some time.

And Trump is willing to take the fight to Hillary, and screw the PC.

So in other words, you are a self-absorbed pinhead who contradicts himself in a petulant opus. Good, get out the way, we'll back someone who is willing to fight Hillary even harder than he fought against his GOP primary opponents.

Fact is...GOP disunity kept a couple of million of people home in 2012 and Romney lost as a result...and as a result of his not taking the fight to Obama.

That's absolutely true. But whether or not a couple of hundred people leave FR (voluntarily or not) will have exactly zero effect on whether that happens in 2016.

As someone who has been opposed to Trump since day one, it's clear that I am unwelcome here for the duration of the campaign. I plan to take a sabbatical from posting here until November 9.

That is one option for sure. But you could still be a contributor to FR by
participating in other threads that aren’t related to Trump/presidential
campaign. Example would be issues of legislation, senator/representative
races, world issues, and so on. In any case take care and good luck.

We had to do it because Cruz is a globalist. Trump is not. The battlefield has changed. You are on the wrong battlefield and fighting the last war. One day you will realize it and come back.

If Cruz humbles himself, he might have another rodeo someday.

But Trump KNOWS this is his (Trump’s) one and only opportunity to effect change for our nation and he’s going for it.

I’ve never seen someone fight so hard, so fierce as Trump!!!
I’ve never seen such energy and drive as in this man.......he is age defying!!

If God wills, our nation may yet be spared.
Trump’s foreign policy speech was heart wrenching to me.....I truly never thought anyone in my lifetime or ever again, would have the clear vision of and for America!
