...the issue is accommodating (and subsidizing) a depraved desire at the expense of the discomfort and possible danger of those with normal and Biblical sensibilities...
That is exactly the issue. No more. No less.
Can we look at this situation under a magnifying glass?
The bible pounding group wants to just keep itself at a degree of “unpollution” that it considers appropriate.
But have they ever thought of letting themselves be “polluted” by a degree of God’s love that permits them to enter compromising situations from the viewpoint of the world?
This is starting to look like the way Jesus caught grief for meeting up with tax collectors and sinners and gluttons and drunkards.
You may reply that He urged all to repent and that would be quite true.
But you never get that to happen by showing nothing BUT wrath. That teaches the lesson that the essence of life itself is about wrath, rather than something that is beyond the wrath.
Will Target turn into a mecca for the sexually sinful? That might be turned by God into a good thing. This is where they can be preached to about a better way, but a mixed message that says “damn you as long as we get our own” is unconvincing. The evangelists of old visited the bowery and the skid row far more often than they visited the tony places in town.
And which is not opposed to showing grace to such, nor is opposition hypocritical, as (hopefully) boycott advocates are not claiming they not all sinners, but (hopefully) are not impenitently defending such and demanding accommodation for practicing it to the discomfort and possible danger of others who do not agree with it.
