Oh, and we did miss the season for black locust tree flowers. Maybe due to late frost/ice, the locust trees were disappointing this year. Normally my wife collects the flower clusters and boils them. Very sweet and delicious.

We have Gibbons book around here somewhere. Hubby spent several years foraging and eating all sorts of stuff. We also have clay soil, and so our garden patches have had to have quite a bit of amendments.

We don't have the deer problem, but rabbits, squirrels, opossums, and raccoons do make some things challenging.

We are blessed with a number of wild berries, persimmons, mulberry trees, and black walnut trees that were here already, so we have some stuff to eat even when we don't plant anything.

Thursday we went to Gardens Of The World in Berlin. Was great, but half the place was barricaded off because they are adding huge new areas. So we are looking forward to returning next year.

I was getting the swelling last year - especially around the ankles and feet. Systolic is still too high, but diastolic is better since my operation, and I lost 10 lbs.

I have figured out that keeping my carb levels down helps to keep the water retention down too. I think the Doc has given up on the systolic.

They tried giving me Lisinopril, but that led to inability to breathe. I am hoping to lose another 10 lbs this summer, and hoping that will help the BP too.

Thanks to you.

My Japanese Hydrangea plants should be quite different than my large Oak Leaf Hydrangea. These new plants will be double lacecap in appearance with a pinkish white color.

Fai Mao " I have been trying to grow sweet potato sets for planting without luck"

Most varieties of potato are treated to inhibit sprouting, especially during transport and ultimate sale to the consumer.
I recall a school science project with sweet potatoes , despite the anti-sprout treatment, which involved a drinking glass, water, three toothpicks, and a sweet potato.
The sweet potato is quite fibrous, and will take quite a bit of abuse before rotting; so impale the sweet potato with the three toothpicks, evenly spaced ,
preferably with a potato 'eye' on top. The 'eye' will determine where the sprout will occur .
Place the potato so that the toothpicks will support it on the rim of the drinking glass, and fill the glass with water, so that 2/3 of the potato is below the waterline.
Place in a sunny window and sprouts should form at an "eye" in about 2 weeks , depending on maintaining water level in the glass, and the amount of sunshine.
This is fine for just a couple of sweet potatoes, but what if you want many ? I would use a rubbermaid tray , or a baking sheet with water.

Beautiful girl. If you want people to see the flowers I suggest not putting her in the pictures. LOL I think you have a young gardener there. She looks very happy!

Been there and done that these just did not spout. The agriculture depart here will have some sets in a week or so. I’ll just buy them

About 45 minutes...and a whole WORLD away! I’m now in Iowa County - much closer to The Mighty Mississippi River.

I’m in the part of Wisconsin that the Glaciers missed - so it’s very hilly and just stunningly beautiful!

The BIRDS! I’ve added a feeding station just off the front porch. So far...Grosbeak, Indigo Bunting and so many Goldfinch you’d think it was a Peeps Convention! Cardinals, soon to be Orioles (they’re on their way!) and I’ve been monitoring the progress of a Mama Robin and her three eggs and nest that are currently in our watering hose holder in the back. Two fuzzy chicks, so far. (She’s not real happy when I go to look, LOL!)

Also, a crazy male Pheasant that I’ve named, ‘Grover’ who has been hanging around in the back tree line, calling for a mate and enjoying tearing through the old compost pile back there. He’s turning it for me! Good Boy! LOL!

I’ve upgraded from 1.2 acres (with which I did a LOT!) to 160 acres of pure awesomeness. 100 in production (feed corn, hay and soybean) 30 in set-aside for growing big, delicious Bucks and 30 in Pasture, which is rented out for Heifers each season. (They’re so darn CUTE!)

Oh, and Beau will never be kicked out of bed for eatin’ crackers, either. He makes this all possible. ;)

My gardening is still on hold until my thumb heals. The surgery went fine, but the wound was infected enough that they packed it open. If the dressing gets so much as a drop of water on it, I’m under doctor’s orders to go straight to the clinic.

Makes it hard to do much.

Gardens are a blessing too. I encourage everyone to spend a day at one. So beautiful and many really nice people too.

Fai Mao :" The agriculture depart here will have some sets in a week or so. I’ll just buy them "

You are fortunate to have a 'fall back', or a 'plan B'
When you get your sets, get the cultivar name so that you can compare productivity, size , etc. , for next years crop.
