An Old Idea Revived: Starve Cancer to Death
The New York Times ^ | May 12, 2016 | Sam Apple

In the early 20th century, the German biochemist Otto Warburg believed that tumors could be treated by disrupting their source of energy. His idea was dismissed for decades — until now... Theodor Boveri discovered that if he fertilized sea-urchin eggs with two sperm rather than one, some of the cells would end up with the wrong number of chromosomes and fail to develop properly....Boveri was aware that cancer cells, had abnormal chromosomes; whatever caused cancer, had something to do with chromosomes.

... Otto Warburg's... research, was hailed as a major breakthrough in our understanding of cancer..... Warburg was focused on energy, specifically on how the eggs fueled their growth. Warburg knew that sea-urchin eggs increased their oxygen consumption significantly as they grew, so he expected to see a similar need for extra oxygen in the rat tumor. Instead, the cancer cells fueled their growth by swallowing up enormous amounts of glucose (blood sugar) and breaking it down without oxygen.

The result made no sense. Oxygen-fueled reactions are a much more efficient way of turning food into energy, ... Warburg tested additional tumors from humans and he saw the same effect. The cancer cells were ravenous for glucose..... Warburg’s discovery -the Warburg effect, is estimated to occur in up to 80 percent of cancers. It is so fundamental that a positron emission tomography (PET) scan, which has emerged as an important tool in the staging and diagnosis of cancer, works simply by revealing the places in the body where cells are consuming extra glucose. In many cases, the more glucose a tumor consumes, the worse a patient’s prognosis. “I think there’s no doubt that insulin is pro-cancer,” Watson says, with respect to the link between obesity, diabetes and cancer. “It’s as good a hypothesis as we have now.”

I’m doing what I call modified Gerson for cancer, and so far it’s working. I also do hyperbaric chamber therapy and some supplements. I’ve had a hell of a time with docs; I went seven months without a specific diagnosis! My Cancer is extremely rare so now docs want to treat me just to have thier name on my case.
I despise the cancer industry. I pointed out in the beginning the things that just did not make sense and chemo centers hushed me and shuffled me out the door. I’ve been in many chemo centers and they all have “granola” bars, aka candy bars with some oats sprinkled on top, and Ensure. They push them on the chemo patients. They tell the patients to eat and drink whatever they want as long as they are eating and drinking. They push sugar on cancer patients! It’s disgusting.

Dr. Colin Champ (cavemandoctor.com) is a proponent of the ketogenic diet for cancer treatment. He’s at upmc and I’d love to meet with him. I plan on contacting him this summer.

I've been on pure foods for over five years now. That includes whole grains, nothing over processed and as chemical-free as possible. My only added sugar is packets, for carefully measured teaspoons.

Once my taste buds adjusted, the stuff with syrupy sugars and overprocessed food and foods which serve no nutritional function don't even taste good any more. My caloric intake is way down because the foods are so efficient.

I originally did this as part of detoxing to boost my immune system. FWIW, five years ago it was very difficult to find foods that meet these criteria. Today, if one knows what to consume, it's gotten much easier to choose foods that meet these criteria, both in groceries and from restaurants.

It's inconceivable that the detoxed, pure foods diet doesn't help ones body fight disease.

A lot of stuff out there about the whole grain breads being very bad for you. I don’t know.

I make my own bread using potatoes like they did 100 years ago, or you can get potato bread. I try to avoid the wheat and whole grains. Pumpernickel, jewish rye. My favorite is the potato breads.

I just had two strips of bacon this morning... lol

Eat meat, fish & salads, eggs & bacon, cut down on bread, eat a
little real butter; do not eat much sugar, just a little
honey, HFCS is for the birds IF you hate birds.

Cancer patients don’t need to starve to death; but that’s
what a lot of them end up doing on the SAD (Standard
American Diet).

Coke has only about 1.3 ounces of sugar per can.

I've yet to see an article about the effects of regular multi-day or intermittent fasting (aka 6-hour or 8-hour diet) on cancer prevention or treatment.

The effect of sugar on cancer is well known. For example, see the book Anti-Cancer.

I am convinced that the diabetes epidemic is almost entirely caused by the levels of High Fructose Corn Syrup being added to our diet.

It is in orange juice, spaghetti sauce, damn near anything you can think of these days...

A web page from Dr Art Robinson of Robinson Homeschool Curriculum Discusses nutrition and a case where cancer was starved successfully.

For those interested, there's also a website called chrisbeatcancer and he followed a strict diet to survive cancer.

Are you saying that the sugary food consumption decreases with ‘the munchies.’

No, lowered blood sugar is what causes the munchies. If you can keep from consuming carbs, you can actually lose weight.
