I don’t think you are right.

What seems more likely to me is that the herd left the poor calf, and alone he was just looking for help in the first place. The tourists tried to do the right thing and took him to the park rangers. If the tourists hadn’t picked up the calf, he probably would have starved to death alone, or had been eaten by wolves. How was that better?

A CNN piece on the story said they were “international” tourists. It said the park was going to start putting up warning signs in more languages.

The expert in the interview said the calf would’ve lost the scent it was carrying of the mother and the herd and got rejected for that reason.
