I swear this is the last Marvel film I see: Captain America reviewed

Captain America: Civil War is the 897th installment — or something like it — in the Marvel comic franchise. This time round, the superheroes take sides, with the marketing asking if you’re #TeamCap or #TeamIronMan but not if you’re #TeamNeither, as would be most useful in my case. I swear this is the last Marvel film I will see as I never get anything out of them and whatever I say only sets the fans against me, which is not what you want at my age.

My girl dragged me to it last weekend. I did not like it. I didn’t tell her that of course. She’s a child.

How much can you expect from a film based on a comic book?

We all liked it. It was fun, crazy action. Ant-man is a real scene stealer. +1 for the U S of A and down with the UN.

Unfortunately, don’t 100% of modern comedies suck? I was into things like Ghostbusters, Fletch, and Beverly Hills Cop, but this modern stupidity just turns me off. Even though I knew I would hate it, I turned the recent Vacation on when it was on TV. What an abomination. Every one of the original four had at least some merit. This one was disgusting and stupid.

I’m assuming the ‘moral complexity’ is intended to be in the conflicts between the characters, but these conflicts are all so obvious and cartoonish that I absolutely failed to detect it.

Hey lady, they don't call it a comic book story for nothing.

I haven't seen the movie, but if I do, I will not judge it against "War and Peace", "Titanic" or "Citizen Kane!"

I agree. The remake of Vacation was stupid. If I was the Director, I would had casted Will Ferrell. He’ll actually pull it off. Just my. 02

This past week in a span of 2 days I watched Transformers: Age of Extinction and Mission Impossible: Rogue nation

I lost IQ points. The dialog was terrible in Transformer and in Mission Impossible. All Tom Cruise did was run then run some more then drive fast and hung off an airplane then run some more.

I find modern movies to be extremely boring, and I don’t watch shows either. I watch anime, which are usually fantastic shows.

Regular movies tend to be about 1-1/2 to 1-3/4 hours.

These ‘action’ movies go over 2 hours.

Whenever I watch one, I notice that I look for areas where they could have cut.

After about 1-1/2 hours of so, I find myself drifting or picking up the laptop to check out things online.

Back in the day, when I actually went to theaters, I rated features by the "watch" method. The sooner I checked my watch to see how much more torture I'd have to endure, the lower the rating.

Angry Birds is pissing off the left. They see it as a criticism of the refugee crisis

Idiotic. The movie was green-lit three years ago based upon a detailed treatment -- well before the refugee issues arose. At the very least, those critics don't understand that animated features take longer to create than live-action ones, typically.

They all said, at last, a decent Avengers movie with ‘emotional depth’ and ‘moral complexity’, and now I have to question what planet they’re living on.

This is a movie based on comic books - any positive attribute applied to such movies by reviewers should always be considered in that context. It has emotional depth - for a comic book movie. It has moral complexity - for a comic book movie. Etc.

Hollywood's only proven money makers are movies based on comic books, old TV shows and Star Wars.
