‘Anyone remember the angry smokers mob who used to rant regularly against the anti-smokers here?

Haven’t seen that in forever.’

This a result of the very high taxes on tobacco and will result in taxes on something else to make up the difference, probably food. I live in town which recently put a 3% tax on eating out. I no longer eat out in protest. How is it constitutional to tax a segment of US citizens that does something you don’t like while not taxing the rest of the country? Just more left wing, nanny state, do as I say, I know best Bullsh1t.

At .55 a pack you’re beating my .75 per pack cost.
Locally tobacco prices vary by county and city but tubes are usually $2.50 a carton.
Mail me if you have a good online site for supplies.

Good for your health.

Bad for the fact that once the Government experiences success in a social engineering project, they are never gonna quit “nudging” us.

Here in Al. tobacco cost about $9 a pound and papers about a $1 per hundred. I recalculated and they run about 35 cents a pack.

I wonder if the sharp decline has to do with cellphones...

By that I mean...some people smoke to give them something to do with their hands when they’re bored, and smoking “looks cool” and can be a social thing. But now we have phones that we can use to kill 5 minutes here and there, and handling a cigarette while surfing the phone is probably just too much of a hassle to even bother with.

Just a theory.

I remember when a carton of ‘Boro’s was...four dollars?

Most popular brand in Vietnam, I recall.

Anyway, smoking’s an expensive habit. I quit in 1980. June 15th, to be exact. God was merciful; He just reached down and turned off any desire for another smoke, and that was that.

The rate of smoking among adults in the U.S. fell to 15 percent last year

What means this? Only 15 percent of adults smoke now? Hard to believe. But I live in PA so maybe the forest is unlike the trees.

Here in PA it is about $6. (I don't indulge, but I know many who do.)

No kidding! A nasty addictive habit that costs a fortune and then kills you.

No kidding. The Walmart associates at our local store do not have a smoking lounge, they have to sit outside in all weathers...the nasty addictive habit could cause them to die of exposure but they will have their nick.

I had a great uncle who claimed he started smoking at age 6. He always smoked filterless cigs. Lived well into his eighties. Lucky I guess.

I didn't smoke until I went to Basic Training. I was an athlete in high school and college and wouldn't even think about smoking. But, in Basic, I thought it looked pretty cool, so I would smoke, but not inhale. (Sound like anybody?)

Went back to college, and again, didn't smoke. (Cigarettes, that is.) Would smoke the wacky weed and hash. (it was the late 60's, early 70's, after all) One day, while playing poker in the fraternity house, I asked to take a drag on an Old Gold filter cigarette. I took the drag like a doob and got higher than a kite on that cigarette. I quit the drugs and started smoking cigs. Cigs, at that time, were 20 cents a pack and weed was $20 a lid. So, it was an economic decision, that I would come to regret.

I quit five years ago. Made up my mind I was going quit. So, I put on a patch and took Nicorette lozenges. Tag team the addiction and try to make it easier on myself. Within a week the patch went away. But, to this day, I'm still sucking on those lozenges. Better than smoking!

I remember when Chesterfields were 23cents. My father would buy them at a machine for a quarter and there would be 2 pennies taped to the pack. My dad would give me the 2 cents.
