INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Netflix is getting exclusive Disney streaming rights.

Among lots of new movies coming to Netflix this summer, perhaps one of the biggest announcements was the partnership with Disney.

In a release on Tuesday, Netflix announced the partnership saying it will have exclusive streaming rights for Disney movies, Marvel, Pixar and Lucasfilm.

The catch? They won’t be available until September.

What about reruns? I’m thinking primarily of Hocus Pocus on every Halloween time.

Netflix is in that weird transitional stage. By some estimates they’ve eliminated about 30% of the content offered and have tried to fill the gap with their own original programming. This has met with some success, but the deal with Disney is meant to placate those critics who say that the content offered by Netflix (and not produced by them) just plain sucks.

House of Cards is a pretty good Netflix show and almost worth the $10/mo all by itself.

Question: I’m not a Netflix user. Or Hulu or any other streaming service.

The reason is that I absolutely cannot abide any sort of pausing, buffering, pixelation, lipsync or other flaws while watching something. When I have missed a show on ABC, NBC, etc. I will suffer through these problems just so I don’t miss the story but I don’t consider it acceptable for cord cutting.

I have a 45Mbs connection, yet I still have these problems. Is there a way with Netflix to download a movie or show and watch it later rather than stream it while you watch ?

Absolutely agree. Love that show. And the 2nd season of Bloodline is being released tomorrow. I was pleased to see them go that route because many of the distributors were shutting them out and wouldn’t do deals with them to stream their content.

I’ve never had those issues. I have a fairly standard Internet connection and I stream either through my Roku, my MacBook Pro or iPad. The picture quality is excellent and I never get the kind of buffering issues you describe. Maybe the bottleneck is in the device you are using.

45Mbs is more than sufficient. An HD 1080p stream only requires 6Mbs. But if you’ve got buffering issues I would suggest its either a router or the streaming device. I used to have that problem until I purchased a high-end router and went with Roku Sticks as my streaming device. The cost is recouped in about 3 months of cord cutting.

Those are valid points. I have only done streaming via my Win 8.1 PC which is gigabit wi-fi connected to my cable modem 50 feet away.

Plenty of links in that chain — not even counting the notorious TimeWarner Cable network — for my issues to crop up.

I would still prefer being able to schedule downloads to a DVR-type system so actual viewing time was not subject to such vagaries. Is Netflix streaming purely “streaming only” ?

No but I have used Netflix and Amazon streaming for several years now and rarely have issues. In fact if I do have issues either the streaming site is down or my Internet does not work at all and both are rare occurrences.

I'm sure there is a way to capture the stream and play it later - maybe the Movavi Video Editor. However, these are screen captures and if you are prone to buffering and such, all you will be doing is making a recording of the issues you are trying to avoid.

I do not believe there's a way you can actually download content from Netflix to play later. I believe you can only play and record it in real time. Maybe others have a way.

Yeah. Unfortunately Netflix is stream only. No download for later viewing. Maybe now that Charter is buying out Time Warner the connection will get better for you. I’m a Charter customer and don’t have any real complaints.

I would agree on the router too.
I had those kind of problems and a high speed router
fixed it. Then went to a hard line instead of wifi
and picked up some speed also.

Don’t have much trouble now.

Most definitely. I have a two story house and router placement was limited for me based on the cable run (unless I wanted to get crazy and start fishing cable through walls and ceilings). So of course I ran into throughput issues upstairs getting ~4Mbs at best on a 60Mbs connection. Until I bought this:

The Netgear Nighthawk AC1900. Sure it costs $180 bucks at Amazon. But for getting those upstairs throughput speeds up from 4Mbs to 40Mbs I'm happy.

What do you got? Dial-up? If you have standard broadband internet service, Netflix works like a glove.

Supposed to be 45Mbs from TimeWarner Cable. I usually am lucky to measure 27Mbs using dslReports speedtest tool.

Still, with Win8.1 and a wifi modem 50 feet away, the hiccoughs could be other reasons. A wired connection to a dedicated Roku or other device might make all the difference.

Hmmmm. I have only a 15Mbps internet connection but I have very little pausing and buffering problems.

Do you own your own cable modem and router or rent them? I own mine and they are rated at many times faster than my internet connection itself.

Also, I use a wired connection from my router to the Roku device but I realize that’s not practical in all cases.

I was wondering why my Netflix stock $10/share this past week.
The stock has gone up and down quite a bit. From $133 to $84 and in between.
