they would pack a suitcase with my clothes, get me in the car and tell me they were driving me to the orphanage. Oh, yeah. Got that one two.

but then admitted they made him get out of the car and then left him behind "as discipline."
The kid was lucky, when I came home from a weekend camping trip with my Cub Scout troop, I found my parents had moved and left no forwarding address........

I certainly didn’t mean to imply any lack of love or devotion of children. However there is a greater inclination to toughen up to kids so they can compete.

...they would pack a suitcase with my clothes, get me in the car and tell me they were driving me to the orphanage. My parents were not known to joke about discipline issues. If they told me that I'd have said goodbye to our dog and looked for my baseball mitt to take along.

This sounds much worse than the kid that fell in gorilla exhibit at the Cincinnati Zoo.

My dad actually stopped the car and gave me and my brothers an ass-whoopin’ right on the side of the road one time - after we’d pushed it too far. Lesson learned.
