This is the 3rd of three great, enduring albums produced in 1970. All recorded in NYC.

Duane Allman's work on Whipping Post rivals Jimi Hendrix on Machine Gun.

The other two are: Stones Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out! and Hendrix Band of Gypsys.

In Memory of Elizabeth Reed here is the best song ever recorded.

I totally misread that title. I thought you mean “live” as in “reside.” So my first thought was, “wow, even after all those great albums those guys can’t find a place to live?” followed by “Man, the San Francisco real estate market must really be tough.” And, finally, “Oh.”

Great album, but it was recorded in March 1971.

"but it was recorded in March 1971."

Correct. It was released in July 1971. Not July 1970.

Typo.

I respond to the rhythm riff at the start of Whipping Post the way women turn towards crying babies in a crowd.

Certainly the best live album ever recorded, for sure.

"Put your hands together for this ..."

Speaking of the Allman Brothers, especially Duane Allman, and the Fillmore East, they dropped by to see Jerry and the boys one night long ago. BTW, Peter Green (originator of Fleetwood Mac) was there too, and Jerry invited them to plug in later in the second set and this was the result ...

Grateful Dead Live at Fillmore East on 1970-02-11

Pay particular attention to the hour long jam, Dark Star, Spanish Jam, and Turn On Your Lovelight where Peter Green, Danny Kirwan, Mick Fleetwood, Duane Allman, Greg Allman, Butch Trucks, and Barry Oakley participated.

After Duane died, the AB played Cincy, and my band members knew them so they had us backstage. I didn’t know any of them.

You’re forgetting about a little record called “Live at Leeds.”

This is long before Cher got her hooks into Gregg Allman.
I think she ended up filing for divorce nine days later.

Look for this Allman Brothers At Fillmore East - Deluxe Edition.

I think it’s the whole show.

While Winterland was a great venue, 1973 was too late for the Allman Brothers.
