You absolutely MUST install the Brave browser [from fired firefox exec]

I remember when Mozilla fired Brendan Eich for being a normal human being, I was sort of bummed that I was going to stop browsing with Firefox. I'm not really the organized boycotting type, but I am someone who simply refuses to participate in idiocy. If some anti-American Hollywood liberal wants to fight against a normal civilization, then I just stop watching their movies and buying their music. If a coffee establishment tells their baristas to engage with me about race when I'm trying to get my morning triple venti soy latte, then I go elsewhere. If one of my favorite conservative-leaning talk show hosts starts supporting a liberal for President, then I turn the dial. It's not that I keep a list, but if it's seared into my brain deep enough, then I certainly alter my habits as a consumer of products, services, and content. Conversely, if someone is under attack by Marxists, then I tend to overly support them, like the Chick-Fil-A scenario, where I was stuffing my face with spicy chicken sandwiches several times per week for months. Thank goodness that died down. Anyway, I knew whatever Eich ended up doing, if it was a product or service, I was going to be a customer. I have no idea what Eich's politics are, but I know he is someone worth supporting.

Okay, I just looked and there is an ‘import bookmarks from html function’ available in the menu bar. How that works, I dunno.

In Firefox, export your bookmarks into html. ...

Bookmarks, Show all Bookmarks, Import and backup, export bookmarks to html.

Then let Brave import that exported html file.

BTW, this is a good way to back up your bookmarks against the possibility of some catastrophic failure. My bookmarks file is about 20 years old. I've been pretty religious about backing it up, and have migrated it from one computer to another for years. I got into the habit way back when Netscape would occasionally get flaky and corrupt the bookmarks. This served me extremely well during the .1 and .2 releases of what eventually became firefox, where it wasn't all that terribly uncommon for something to wipe your bookmarks out during an update. I still have the very first site I ever bookmarked. Sadly it has been defunct for a long time.

I just downloaded and installed it. It looks interesting and is probably worth following; but it looks like the ability to change text font and size is only at the wishlist level and the default they have is not very compatible with my eyesight.

Does ctrl-+ not work for you? Does for me. I have the same problem. Tiny text is not friendly to my old eyes.

Pale Moon (based on Firefox) also gives a great rendition of FR on my Android phone.

Thanks, I’ll see if I can manage to do that. I’ve usually found trying to save email address books to be an exercise in frustration, maybe browser bookmarks will be easier.

Ctrl-+ works for me on Firefox and Opera, but not Brave. This article, dated a few days ago, seems to indicate that font changing is not yet implemented:

Option to choose fonts #1757

I have a huge monitor and glasses optimized for the appropriate distance; so tiny text is not a big problem for me. What is a problem is the hardwired seriph font. With characters only a few pixels wide, the seriphs are distracting clutter.

there’s like a gazillion forks of FF and it seems like I’ve tried about half of them at one time or another, but always come back to FF because they’re usually the work of one or two people, and sooner or later they make some insane decision that wrecks compatibility with addons, or freeze the version and don’t keep up with critical developments, or simply CAN’T keep up with critical developments.

Try using ctrl-= on your keyboard rather than your 10-key. I tried the 10-key first, and it didnt work.

When I use Firefox (with NoScript) to view the local weather forecast here:

National Weather Service

the edit box and "Go" button for viewing the forecast for another city does not function unless scripting is whitelisted.

With Brave, whitelisting is not necessary; and the edit box and "Go" button work by default.

I also notice that when I go to the web site of a local TV station, I get a clean page with Brave, but get inundated with crap if I use any browser that does no crap blocking.

Brave is obviously blocking a lot of stuff that needs to be blocked. But the question is, if Brave is permissive enough to let the edit box and "Go" button work, then is it permissive enough to allow malicious JavaScript to do its thing?

Doesn't work. In any event, there should be a menu command or preferences option, if font changing is indeed implemented. Having options controlled by only keyboard accelerators would not be normal UI design.

vlc is awesome

I’m on linux posting with Brave. Nice, very fast. git as in github is a requirement. Presumably for updates.

For all of you not able to do this or that, Hit the Alt button and you get the standard menu items. File | Edit | History etc etc

“On FR, for example, every time I read an article and then go back to the list of articles, it refreshes the page and I go to the top instead of to the spot where I was. No way to change that in preferences.”

Does “Brave” have tabs?

I never directly click on any link. I always right-click and then click on “Open in new tab” or however the browser words it.

I use ALShow instead of VLC Media Player. I have had problems with VLC Media Player. That was several years ago and I do not remember what the problems were but I simply got tired of fooling with it. Does VLC allow multiple media files to be played simultaneously?

I do that on a lot of the sites I visit. FR has that option to ‘open in new tab’ when you click the link in the FR settings so I don’ have to do it here.

I just brought it up on my macbook pro.
Faster than Safari and as soon as I tried Breitbart. com, all the ads vanished.
I like it!
