Windows 10 nagware: You can't click X. Make a date OR ELSE

Microsoft’s Windows 10 nagware campaign has entered a new phase, with all options to evade or escape an upgrade finally blocked.

Recently, Microsoft’s policy had been to throw up a dialogue box asking you whether you wanted to install Windows 10.

If you clicked the red “X” to close the box – the tried-and-tested way to make dialogue boxes vanish without agreeing to do anything – Microsoft began taking that as permission for the upgrade to go ahead.

Now Microsoft is changing gears.

It has eliminated the option to re-schedule a chosen upgrade time once you’ve confirmed it while also removing the red “X” close option from the screen. One Reg reader grabbed the below screenshot from a relative's PC on Windows 7.

Microsoft needs to be sued for this. This is installing software without permission. They can’t get away with calling it an upgrade. It is a new operating system.

What about the add on called ‘never 10’? It was well regarded by users on the CNET.

MS are dirtbags for this, as are the scum in govt whose NSA letters have caused all this crap from the start.

Is there anyone who actually believes that they GIVE AWAY Windows 10 “just because?”

It's an upgrade for them. With win10's keystroke capture "feature" they can make a lot of money selling your data.

Ctrl+Alt+Del, open Task Manager.

Right-click on the “Windows Upgrade” application.

Select “End Task.”

Hmmm - wonder if you could set the date to 3016 or 2056 or some other date waaaaay out in the future after the computer isn’t used anymore.

BTW, they keep trying to slip the KB3035582 “Recommended” update past me on Win7. Just uninstall it and your little upgrade nagware will go away. But every time a new set of Windows updates comes out you need to check if they’re pushing this one again.

There may be other KB#’s, but this one for sure is the nagware.

Never thought I’d see the day when PC’s would no longer be considered “MY COMPUTER” by people who don’t worry about going to jail.

I installed a little “never 10” program suggested by a FReeper and haven’t seen the M$ nag since.

"Never 10" is published by Gibson Research and I've successfully used their products for a very long time.
From their site:I'd use this in a heart beat.

Gibson research has a quick fix for this. I heard it on Leo Laporte’s radio show. Can’t think of the name off the top of my head. On the train at the moment.

Turn off all updates.

Is there some way we can just block the Microsoft IP address that sends the nagware?

It’s called “never 10”. I’ve installed it. Works great. And Leo Laporte is on the level. It’s available as freeware from Gibson research.
