Those people that picked up this calf were excoriated in the press and on FR. Everyone attacked them thinking they condemned the calf to die because humans touched it.

Notice that when the government is faced with a problem; the solution is always death.

Here is the harsh reality .
Calves that are sickly or weak are abandoned by their mothers.
The park services do not remove them and save them because they are food for the predators that would otherwise take healthy calves .

A few years ago, when we went to Yellowstone, there was a buffalo calf on the side of the road, and no other buffalo around. I remember some tourist (typical upper class urban liberal) stopping her SUV and interfering with traffic, wanting to get a ranger because she was afraid the calf was going to die.
Of course it was going to die! This is how nature works!
My husband and I drove off, shaking our heads. Hubby was raised in Salt Lake City, but still understands about nature more than that scatterbrained nature-loving liberal.

I saw them interviewed on FOX as well as the video they had taken of the calf which was clearly in distress. They were completely justified in trying to help it and it's a shame they were ultimately demonized.
I would have done the same thing if I were in their shoes......

So still it was not smart to pick it up.

Not everyone attacked them.
Just the same idiots who attack people who shoot feral cats, and the people who are all upset when birds fly into things that make them go splat.

The Buffalo Calf was obviously a Democrat!
However, being a buffalo without a vote, wildlife experts want their wildlife to be self-sufficient instead of putting them on welfare!

Our job is to accept nature on natures terms. But to do that, we need more educational programs that can teach people just what that means. The National Park Service needs more rangers out in the park and interacting with visitors, teaching them about this place called Yellowstone that I love so much.

This us a representative forum. There are just as many stupid people here per capita as anywhere else. No since bawling everyone out.

“Baby” bison die all the time. Some are brutally torn apart by wolves or other predators. In Africa, “baby” zebras and wildebeests are brutally ripped apart by hyenas and lions. Its not a pretty sight. But its the way the world has worked since the dawn of time. Trying to save any young animal is silly.

Always assume a government spokesman is wrong. Especially when they blame private citizens for their actions. The only reason post modern government exists is too lie.
