Would you eat CRICKETS reared in this bizarre looking farm? {snip}

The Cricket Shelter is a spiky plastic 'cave', that can be used to create a modular farm.

Designed by New York non-profit organisation Terreform ONE, the structure is designed to provide a sustainable source of food and shelter in regions feeling the pinch from food crises, changing climate and economic upheaval.

The shelters can be used individually or stacked together in sequence, forming a line of bug-farming caves.

Once the farm is up and running, the insects can be harvested as and when they're needed, before they are dried and ground into flour, which contains up to three times the protein of steak.

The designers say: 'In an advanced economic setting, this farm can introduce a sophisticated and ultra-sanitary method of locally harvesting insects for the production of cricket flour in fine cuisine recipes.'

In order to leave enough beef for the Clintons and Zuckerbergs of the world to dine on in their air conditioned mansions.

. . . the popcorn of the future. Would you like more butter with that?

Wondering, however, what insect they will use for ‘butter’.

Heck, I can get that now, just by leaving the box on the back porch overnight ... and with the added flavor of spiders and centipedes.

The designer of this "cricket cave" is "Terreform ONE", a Brooklyn-based non-profit architectural and urban think tank specializing in "ecological and egalitarian designs for derelict municipal areas" on a global basis.

Besides the cricket munchy, crunchy lunch farm, the organization has also grown a "mushroom chair" as one of its projects....perhaps part of a near-future where fungi will be cultivated to be made into furniture for the downtrodden.

I wonder how much this group receives in federal taxpayers' grants. At least we know they're pulling down good salaries all the while excused from corporate taxes while the companies WE work for have to pay through the nose.

For those of you turning your nose up at this, let me say that I had crickets in Taiwan back in the 80s. The most amazing thing was they tasted like BACON.

I don’t know if it was the seasoning/sauce or the type of cricket or the fact they were popping like popcorn in the covered pan, but they darn well tasted like BACON.

And no I wasn’t drinking as I was under 21 and couldn’t on the study trip I was on.
