Supreme Court OKs 2011 patent reform law that allows US Patent and Trademark Office to review the claims in already granted patents and invalidate them if they should never have been granted when challenged by companies being sued by patent trolls. Apple is the number one target of such patent trolls. 80% of such patents when re-examined are invalidated because of either obviousness at the time of grant or because of prior art, or because the claims are deemed too broad. For example the latest patent troll has slapped a suit on Apple because the iPhone 6S makes phone calls and sends emails, which the plaintiff claims his patent granted sometime in the last year or so, give him the patent on. — PING!

How could the idiots at the patent office actually APPROVE a patent like that - especially within the last 10 years, considering “a device to make phone calls and send email” has been in common use for at least that long...

How about patent reform period - have to show something unique and enough different before a patent can even be considered? Seems like a no-brainer to me....
