The idea is that you go across quicly enough not to get burned. Like flicking your finger through a flame.
Keep that same finger in the flame and take a selfie and see what happens :)
God, so many people are idiots!! :) Makes for entertainment.
Fast enough to balance out the contact with the no contact time, and steady enough to not disturb the ash and expose your feet to the direct coals. Going too fast, or panicking and hopping or twisting can cause a lot of damage.
