My ancestry is Latino and I don’t know anyone of Latino ancestry who isn’t openly for Trump-the population out here is about evenly divided between those with Anglo surnames/ancestry and those with Latino surnames/ancestry-also with some Blacks and a few Orientals-but no one is a mojado-and there isn’t an organized Democrat party out here-I like that...

I suspect the vast majority of Americans think all Hispanics are Mexican

A friend of mine was just complaining about that, she is from Nicaragua, he is from Venezuela. Both had to flee their countries for freedom. Both are very grateful to the US for taking them in. Both have become citizens.

From their point of view they have nothing in common with the people who are sneaking across the boarder and going on welfare.

Then if they didn’t break the law, they wouldn’t be singled out.

According to CNN from a Pew report, the number of unauthorized immigrants in the United State is 11.2 million.
The number peaked in 2007, according to Pew, when there were an estimated 12.2 million unauthorized immigrants in the country. But since 2009, it’s “remained essentially unchanged, “Pew reports, as the numbers of undocumented immigrants entering and leaving the United States “have come into rough balance.” But remember, this number is annual, not permanent.
In recent years, ICE has increased its focus on identifying, locating, apprehending, and removing convicted criminal aliens who are at-large, requiring significantly more officers, time, money, and other resources as compared to those individuals who are in a custodial setting. In FY 2014, while total criminal removals declined from last year, a significant percentage of ICE’s interior removals—85 percent— remained focused on criminal aliens. The substantial share of convicted criminals removed from the interior represents a steady and significant increase from 2008, when that figure was just 38 percent and 2011 when it was 67 percent.3 ICE’s focus on criminal removals in the interior is also reflected in the total number of criminal removals: in FY 2007 and FY 2008, ICE removed 102,024 and 114,415 convicted criminals, respectively, as compared to 216,810 in FY 2013 and 177,960 in 2014. In addition, ICE removed 2,802 individuals in FY 2014 who were classified as suspected or confirmed gang members. As a result, while overall removals declined in FY 2014, ICE has sustained the improved quality of its removals by focusing on the most serious public safety and national security threats.
Kind of hard to argue with the numbers. They don’t lie.

I’d hate to piss in the Post Toasties of the delusional elites in Mexico-but anyone whose ancestors came from Spain to Mexico 150-200 years ago or more are Mestizos-my ancestors came over in the late 1500’s, and I’m one just as my other family members are, and we vary in color from the rather dark to the very light-most of us are sort of medium.

My 1st husband worked for a company that did a lot of work over there, so I’ve spent enough time in Mexico to have made some observations-like the resemblance of those elites to what we would call noveau riche over here-just because they have a Georgian mansion, it does not make them British...

There are an awful lot of light skinned elites in Mexico with German surnames, too-doesn’t make them any better than anyone else, no matter what they think-and the majority of the Cartel capos have light skin and eyes-not my idea of an elite unless you consider Hillary one-just another criminal with money...

I’m going to bust my ass to do all I can to keep that bitch from becoming queen-even out here in Trump country, there is always a doubter or two-I’m afraid that even though my ancestors have been in Texas since the 1780’s, she will declare any of us Latinos who admit we are conservative and speak Spanish as a second language a separate race or some other insane thing, no matter whether our ancestors came from Mexico, Cuba, Nicaragua, wherever-and no matter how long ago they came-she can’t be allowed to occupy the People’s house-again...

re: likely paid drug lords money to get here,

Where is your evidence? The #1 way Mexican illegals come here is legally as tourists, students, special work programs, etc. Then their situation expires.

Probably the #2 way is to rent an ID for $5 from a family owned small business and walk across the border at rush hour when it is impossible to check the IDs.

Probably the #3 way is for family members and close friends from their hometown doing a variation of #2 as they all look alike on an ID.

Drug lords do smuggle illegal across. But there is much more money in drugs than in competing with the above.

I agree-the problem is that since Mexico hasn’t had a full-on political revolt since the early 20th century, and their last “real” revolution was nearly 100 years before that, I think they’ve lost sight of things-they need some patriotic, hotheaded rebels to cry havoc and loose the dogs of war, take down the whole corrupt system-elites, cartels-everything-again and start over in a direction of national pride, production and profit by work-I wonder how many are paying attention to Brexit-and we can set an example for them in November...

Pre-’94 the overwhelming majority of illegals were young unemployed men from the hills...Mexican hillbillies. I learned Spanish from them and my Spanish is ridiculed.

Clinton’s Treas Sec Rubin destroyed the Mexican Peso (for their own good). That chased alla the Mexican Maquiladoras to Asia. So the increased wave since then has been the factory workers and formerly employed.

There is also a political aspect. Under PRI(Clinton Democrats) the PAN types felt political oppression. So their motivation was often a mix of economics and politics.

When libertarian Republican leaning FOX (PAN) and social conservative Calderon (PAN) became president they elminated much of the corruption of PRI patronage. So since 2000 a significant number of PRI supporters have come North.

Not all Mexicans are alike.

FOR GREATER GLORY, Hollywood movie now on DVD, gives a great portrayal of the different types of Mexicans politically. Anyone who comments on this topic should see FOR GREATER GLORY at a minimum (Andy Garcia, Eva Longoria, 2012).

When I was in college, overstaying student visas was a preferred method of remaining illegally, and it srtill was when my cub was in college-the visa expired awhile after graduation, so all you had to do was graduate, disappear into the population of a large city before the date you had to report to la migra, find an employer who didn’t ask too many questions who was impressed with you and your education, and you might never, ever be caught-I doubt that has changed much...

I turned in a college classmate planning to do what I just described because not only was she giving all of us Latinos a bad name, but I couldn’t stand the whiny drama queen anyway-she got deported within a week...
