1. most LDS I’ve known are reasonably conservative people
2. most LDS I’ve known are pretty sensible about secular things, too
I suspect this “phenomenon” is mostly just a paid-off-media event

The OP must be a troll. I know/regularly talk with a lot of people living in Utah. I don’t know of a single person that has anything positive to say about ‘bammy. None.
Of course, they live in the sticks and actually work for a living.

Also, for the OP - they are far more non-LDS now living in Utah than LDS. The model you are pimping went out the window back in the ‘80s. OK, the 1980s. There was a wholesale invasion from California and Mexico starting about then and it hasn’t slowed down any that I can see.
I had hoped to retire to my property in way rural Utah, but the place in now damn near northern Mexico now. A shame, really, it was nice - once upon a time.
I know of a couple and seem pretty sensible.
One I would bet farm on that wouldn’t vote for a dem. The other 80-85% sure wouldn’t.
The rest are DECEIVING Mormons; spreading the falsehood.
