The free upgrade offer dies, and you have to pay for the upgrade.

It keeps trying to load on my computer. If I don’t wait around while my computer is booting up and I am not there to decline the load, it starts loading.

All my files & apps are gone.

If your hard drive still works, that is probably not true unless someone ignored warnings of data loss and instructed Win 10 to reformat the drive. The "upgrade" install, and even a typical install over Win 7/8 from a Win 10 iso file, preserves your old files.

It is a link to a page where you can download a utility to stop the installation of Windows 10. It is from GRC.com ( Steve Gibsons site - a trusted site to download from )

I’ve also heard that there are class action suits in the wings for people using metered Internet services, where they’re charged “out the wazoo” for any overages on their data usage.

Imagine you’ve got a 5GB Internet limit, and MS downloads, without your permission, nearly 10GB of content to your hard drive. You have to pay for the overage.

Mark

What amazes me is that you prefer Win8. To each their own. ;-)

In my opinion, win 10 sucks less than win 8, they both suck though.

Like you said, to each his own.

Microsoft ... says they only halted their appeal to avoid the cost of further litigation
I smell Bullsh*t. When does MS roll over for anyone?

I have a friend who does training courses in the voluntary sector. No direct fees but very essential training for these volunteers so that they can get the necessary quaifications to continue their voluntary work. The people who attend give up their time to be trained and go to some expense to get to the training venue, paying for transport, meals and accomodation where necessay. Her next course was all set up to run on her laptop. Guess what? As she started to present this course, the laptop tried to upgrade to Win10 ! They were able to cancel the update - but the laptop would no longer recognise her projector/audio-visual hardware, and the course had to be abandoned!

I would hate to think how you would calculate a value for the inconvenience that single auto-update attempt caused!

(It took an IT guru hours to get the connection working again, eventually upgrading to 10 at the same time.)

A better link is this one. It solves the problem once and for all.

Or, if you are truly lazy and have a little spare change, just click here.

Of course, if you are too scared to click links, then I can't help you. Although, with Windoze lusers, I suppose that reaction is to be expected.
