Marine Le Pen writes a powerful argument for nationalism and the end of the EU in the New York Times:
The European Union has become a prison of peoples. Each of the 28 countries that constitute it has slowly lost its democratic prerogatives to commissions and councils with no popular mandate. Every nation in the union has had to apply laws it did not want for itself. Member nations no longer determine their own budgets. They are called upon to open their borders against their will.
Countries in the eurozone face an even less enviable situation. In the name of ideology, different economies are forced to adopt the same currency, even if doing so bleeds them dry. Its a modern version of the Procrustean bed, and the people no longer have a say.
And what about the European Parliament? Its democratic in appearance only, because its based on a lie: the pretense that there is a homogeneous European people, and that a Polish member of the European Parliament has the legitimacy to make law for the Spanish. We have tried to deny the existence of sovereign nations. Its only natural that they would not allow being denied.
Brexit wasnt the European peoples first cry of revolt. In 2005, France and the Netherlands held referendums about the proposed European Union constitution. In both countries, opposition was massive, and other governments decided on the spot to halt the experiment for fear the contagion might spread. A few years later, the European Union constitution was forced on the people of Europe anyway, under the guise of the Lisbon Treaty. In 2008, Ireland, also by way of referendum, refused to apply that treaty. And once again, a popular decision was brushed aside.
When in 2015 Greece decided by referendum to reject Brussels austerity plans, the European Unions antidemocratic response took no one by surprise: To deny the peoples will had become a habit. In a flash of honesty, the president of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, unabashedly declared, There can be no democratic choice against the European treaties.
Gee! Once and a while, something decent even appears in the New York Times!
Do you hear the people sing?
It’s not exactly page one news, but in a few days....the Austria Constitutional Court will render it’s comment on the May election.
Basically, it’s screwed up badly. Votes were counted ahead of the mandatory date. Various districts had 100-percent or more of the registered voters come out and vote...so there’s some talk of fraudulent votes. The May vote results had the Green Party chief ahead of the right-wing party chief by about less than one-percent.
According to insider comments over the last couple of days...they think the court will have not much choice in nullifying the results and pressing for another election in late August.
Now, if you stir the BREXIT into this mess in Austria....it’s possible that the right-wing party might come back and actually win the make-up election. This would charge up a number of things for the fall (2 x state elections in Germany, both in the eastern side of the country). But the big deal is spring of 2017....the Presidential election in France....where the right wing might win big. Then there’s the national election in Germany by Oct/Nov of 2017.
Thanks for this. It needs to be nullified, they screwed up big time.

But Democracy is So Yesterday
Guess Marine hasn’t heard that...maybe we should let some EU bureaucrat give her the lecture
Go Marine! You just can’t keep a Marine down!
No wonder, when he says that the elites are not the problem, but it’s the people who are the problem. WOW!
Much the same can be said for these United States. The tenth amendment needs to be enforced.
A new dawn of Nationalism is breaking over Europe. Only a Napoleon or a Bismark could enforce a unity movement—and no one like that seems on the horizon. But maybe one will surface and lead the nations to freedom. I see France is next to leave—then, other nations join her. Germany will invade to enforce the EU. A general war may well be coming.
