Time to Deputize America
American Thinker ^ | 1 Jul, 2016 | John L. Podczerwinski

Posted on 07/01/2016 7:34:16 AM PDT by MtnClimber

As America panics following yet another terrorist attack in yet another "gun-free zone," the inevitable occurs: the left calls for guns to be banned and for more ineffective regulations to be passed. These measures haven't worked in the past, and they won't work in the future.

Instead, America should be focused on another path: let's make our country safer by deputizing America.

Admit it: when driving through a high-crime neighborhood, you feel safer with a police car driving next to you. When taking the subway late at night, the sight of a transit policeman with his trusty German Shepherd makes the trip less stressful. And the thought of a sky marshall protecting your plane at 30,000 feet is comforting, even if you don't know who he is or where he is sitting.

I already carry a gun AND I have a german shepherd. He is appropriately named Bronson after Charles Bronson.

Trump needs to make an ad listing all the terrorist attacks since Obama took office. Silent (no music or voiceover), a deadly ad indicting Hillary/Obama for ignoring the security of the citizenry.

I suspect, as rational people with our safety and the safety of our loved ones at heart, we are constitutionally deputizing ourselves.

I think this would already qualify as the “Well regulated (organized) Militia of the 2nd amendment.

Adam Lanza’s adult victims would vote to have a gun if they could have a do-over.

Those qualified under the federal program could carry their weapons throughout the country without having to navigate the ridiculous maze of state regulations currently in place.

Nope. Sounded pretty good until the words FEDERAL PROGRAM crept into the article.
A program administered by county sheriffs under federal guidelines maybe. But any FEDERAL PROGRAM will end up a jobs program for the unemployable and political cronies.

Many people in the USA have taken the oath of Office to “I, [name], do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.”

Government employees, Military and many others have been “deputized”. We need more authority to abide by this oath.

DING! DING! DING!

Plus, Sheriffs and their deputies fall under a very non-federal, constitutional rubric that places their jurisdiction/authority out of the hands of the fedgub.

On its face, it appears to be a good thing but the devil is in the details the writer specifies: polygraph, psychological exam, interview. IOW, more government overreach in an area that is so clear and explained in simple language: “shall not be infringed”

Got it??? Good!

Just give an automatic $5k raise to all law enforcement officials and make them carry 24/7.

As I went back and reread the article, a thought struck me.
This program could be implemented with nothing more than bill signed into law by a President Trump. Hopefully.
Concealed Carry permittee have passed a stringent background check and in most states have completed a basic firearm competency class.
County Sheriffs would as part of the permit deputize them as “Special Deputies” with no arrest power, but be permitted to carry damn near everywhere.
Additional training with LEO firearms instructors could give the country an additional 3-5 million armed responders.

Removing the FEDERAL PROGRAM from the basic idea makes it, in my opinion very workable.

Agreed...Way too many “federal” programs now...Some good intentions with terrible results...Most with bad intentions with the results they wanted...

Time to drastically reduce the federal government one way or another...

the libturd anti-gunners don't care if the people believe their lies or not, the libturds in DC wield enough power by knowing where the DC Rino establishment skeletons are buried to force them to go along with their gun grab, be it little by little. The gun grab can't be stopped in DC unless or until Trump is in the WH and then, for how long.

The only reason a “federal program” of this nature might make sense, to me, is if it conferred on the members some sort of immunity from liability and lawsuit.

When I joined the Marine Corps I was deputized and have never been relived from that obligation.

This makes a lot of sense. It’d be a good first step to restoring the 2nd to its rightful glory.

When I left the Corps the officer presiding reminded me that while my legal obligation to the USMC had come to an end and I was most assuredly NOT relieved of the oath I took.

I’ve not forgotten that.
