Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

It’s a line from Monty Python’s Search for the Holy Grail.
I only watched that once, and I had a hard time following it. Perhaps I need to do it again. It would seem I’m missing a lot.
LOL!
Haven't heard about a Birmingham science fair, but the picture book about Ada Lovelace did, in fact, have horses in it. Also, the end-notes said that an Analytical Engine is being built: should be done around 2022.
LOL, Did it work? Do tell, I’m itching to know.
Can’t say I’ve heard about that,no.
Is it at the NEC ? That place is humongous.
European or African?
Nothing really messes up your morning like discovering it’s afternoon.
Good afternoon, FRiends.
African or European swallow?
Afternoon ArGee.
Just about to start cooking Dinner now.
I don’t wanna hear it.
Meeting after meeting today. And I HATE meetings.
In fact, the Monday Pearls Before Swine calendar had my thoughts about meetings almost perfectly transcribed.
Panel 1:
Rat: If I ran a business, I would schedule nothing but meetings
Goat: To make sure everyone comunicates?
Panel 2:
Rat: To spread blame and hear myself talk.
Panel 3:
Rat: Apparently you don’t understand meetings.
Meetings: Being forced to sit around a table with people usually would sit within goat grazing distance of, by choice.
*Meetings, the practical alternative to work*
LOL! I love it! That’s a great comic strip.
I just got back in from sitting with the peeps. It would seem that we have gained a new follower, and that’s OK. This one is ol’ drunk Jim, that has a large plastic tumbler full of beer wherever he goes.
Chuck came out just before I left to come in, but he irks me, these days, so it’s OK. He was questioning me about the 501c3 and it felt like the 3rd degree, so I told him that Zeke was the one he needed to talk to about it. I don’t think he liked that, and he likes to talk down to me. (Reminds me of Igor.) So I always leave when he does that.
Saturday, I will take some stuff to the thrift store and see if I can find a small frying pan. I need something between the “small” one I have and the little single egg pan that I have.
Maybe I can find another CD/DVD case for not a lot of money. I need one more, for sure, as I have some leftover CDs/DVDs from when I “organized” the last time.
What do you need a frying pan for? Did I miss a wedding announcement?
Or are there other uses for them besides whacking husbands?
The Difference Engine was built by the Science Museum of London in 1991 (says the book). It was a success. The Analytical Engine was begun in 2011, according to the book.
This bit from the museum doesn’t mention the replicas.

There is just one small problem with the Science museum in London.
Apart from being in London.
The Noise.
It is a fantastic place to visit, but you must go prepared.
Kids in museums don’t appear to have any control over their audio output anymore. The last time I went there was two years ago, I wore Ear Plugs, the sound levels actually make your ears bang.
Once you are off the ground floor it cools down, but that’s where the best stuff is.
I was going to go to The Salvation Army yesterday, but I decided I was too tired. Maybe I’ll go next Wednesday. It got my new glass today. They work really well.
As for whacking husbands, I prefer a softball bat. I can always hit a home run with the right one...
When I need new glasses, I just go to the Dollar Tree. ;o]
I haven’t been to the thrift store in a long time, so I hope I don’t find something in there that I can’t absolutely, positively live without. It would kill me to live without it! LOL!
Sally went to Dollar Tree this morning. I sat in the van and read my book through my new glasses. There might have been something I would love at The Salvation Army yesterday, but I’ll never know, so whatever.
Something is going on with the laptop today, and everything has slowed to a crawl. It takes me forever to post something, and a few minutes ago, it just threw all the windows out. I was able to retrieve them, but it happens periodically, and I hate it.
I love the Dollar Tree for things I don’t want to pay a lot at Walmart for, but a few days ago, I found a tube of toothpaste at Walmart for .87 centavos. The Dollar Tree doesn’t ever lower prices. I mean, why should they? A dollar for everything? Works for me!
