New Dwarf Planet Discovered Far Beyond Pluto's Orbit

Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.

Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)

"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."

...

The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).

The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).

"There it was on the screen — this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

I’m sure anyone who could follow it could argue with it.

I find this morning very hard to annoy. Maybe your morning needs a thicker skin?

Anyone can get a light to go off. It’s getting it to go off in such a way that it can come back on that gets tricky.

Even Jonah Goldberg is losing faith in SMOD now. He’s just not polling that well.

I’ve been known to come in Monday morning, realize there is un-drunk coffee in my cup, and drink it. It’s often a little strong due to evaporation - almost strong enough to start making that the default process.

I’ve never heard of cleaning coffee apparatus. I’d be surprised if anything besides humans can survive my coffee.

It eats through the equipment every 3 years or so.

Most people don’t want to admit that’s who they will vote for.

We’ll see.

I want to go get that beer, and maybe some meat tenderizer. The pork chops I bought are tough, and I need to drench the one I took out for today with something, beat it up, or let it bathe in beer, though the latter seems like such a waste of good beer.

Oscar the Grouch is gone and I’m sure if I leave, he will take my spot, even though Greg’s spot is empty, due to his being at dialysis.

Late starts really bother me. BUT. The clothes are folded and put away, and I’ve had my steroid. So maybe I’ll go have a hit of one of the not-steroids and see if he is back when I’m done, so I can leave without worrying about where to park.

When I had a conventional coffee maker, I mostly just rinsed it out and the coffee was always excellent; then Mr Coffee hit the scene, followed by clones, and I used them, but didn’t like them because no matter how little I made, it seemed I was always throwing out more than I drank. So that’s when I got the Keurig.

And since I only drink coffee once or twice a week, it’s good. The K-cups are sealed so the coffee doesn’t go stale.

You should have the beer. It’s nutritious.

I’ll be serving up lunch soon, and then we’ll take Elen to school, go to the library, pick Elen up at school, and then maybe lie down for an hour before Jamie comes to cut my hair.

I went after the beer. :o] And bought all six of the bottles of pilsner. Then stopped at Walmart and got a puzzle book for laundry days.

Since this is Tuesday, Charlie may or may not go shopping on the Little Bus, but since I’m waiting with bated breath for the sticker from DMV, I will go out and sit for a little bit, anyway. And if he doesn’t show up, I’ll just come back and have a pils! Thank you!

It was 60 degrees on my patio just before the sun came up and 52% with no wind at all. I almost forgot to open the clubhouse this morning! I guess I was gathering wool, and then I looked at the clock on the computer and did a “yikes!” and took off at a trot.

Tomorrow, I will put some gas in the truck and go get my prescription, even though I hate that trip. I could go without getting the morphine, but how would I function on wash day? I’ve gotten to where I depend on the stuff to take the edge off the pain when I have to stand, stoop or bend for any length of time.

One thing is for sure, and that is that I will have to have a haircut before I make that trip in December. I don’t want to mess with this mop. At all.

Somehow, my nap times take place about the time I’m ready for bed. ;o]

So which job does Bill want, and did he apply to either or both and if not, awesome! If so, still awesome!! :o])

I opened a beer and my neighbor knocked on my door, telling me there were cinnamon rolls at the clubhouse, so I went up and got two containers, one for Charlie, and a carton of pistachio muffins. I don’t know how those will taste, but I gave one to Charlie because I didn’t have a bag big enough to hold two.

And now, I see it’s time for my pills. My back is killing me, too. I guess I’ve been on my feet too long again.

Well THAT all sounds excellent.

Hopefully one or the other of those represents stuff he actually likes to do.

They don’t pay nearly enough to watch TV and hoist a glass at regular intervals.

I found a red-state article from July that says Hillary would get 43%, Donald would get 38% and SMOD would get 13%.

No letter from DMV today, so I get to wait. Again. One thing that DID come was the “safety hammer” for my truck, with the seatbelt cutter. I feel better now. Of course, I’m still trying to find jumper cables I can afford...

Yesterday, my sample ballot came with all the issues spelled out for those of us that read English. I pretty know how I will vote on everything, but I will read it at least once or twice before I go to vote in the early voting.
