Paul Manafort Weakly Denies Any Charges of Melania Trump Plagiarism: ‘There’s No Cribbing’
CNN via Youtube ^ | July 19, 2016

Posted on 07/19/2016 5:41:22 AM PDT by Pinkbell

I transcribed the relevant part of the interview.

CUOMO: Who takes the fall for cribbing Michelle Obama's speech in 2008? Whose fault is that?

MANAFORT: Well, there's no cribbing of Michelle Obama's speech. These were common words and values that she cares about her family, that uh, that things like that. I mean, she was speaking in front of 35 million people last night - she knew that. I mean, to think that she would be cribbing Michelle Obama's words is crazy. I mean it's so, I mean once again, an example of a when a woman threatens Hillary Clinton how she seeks out to demean her and take her down. It's not going to work.

CUOMO: All I'm saying is the language is strikingly similar. I'm not making a big deal of it; I know everybody is talking about it this morning, but I don't think it's an allegation, it's not some suggestion without proof. I don't know why the campaign doesn't just own it and say people borrow phrases, that's what happened, and movie on? That's what, ironically, Obama did in 2008 when Clinton said he cribbed from Deval Patrick. He said, "Yeah, you're right, I did it."

MANAFORT: No, no he did do it. That's correct. But in this particular case, you know, there was a process certainly of collaboration that.. Certainly there's no feeling on her part that she did it. You know, what she did was use words that are common words, and to expect her to, to think that she would do something like that knowing how scrutinized her speech was going to be last night, is just really absurd.

CUOMO: Right, but again, that's assuming that it was Melania. I'm assuming that there were writers involved, but if that's the way you want to explain it, that's up to you. Let me ask you about something else.

-- I could see Trump doing something like this himself. But I can't see him doing it on her first real test in the public eye. --

Agree. Some commentator on FoxNews made the point that Melania only gets this "introduction" one time, and it's now slightly tarnished. He didn;t say it was her fault, but did fault the campaign for not looking out for the principals.

Not a big deal in the scheme of things, but I imagine Donald is pissed, and Melania is pissed and hurt.

-- You can bet he heard that speech hundreds of times while she practiced it with her coaches. --

I wonder what he does when he is out of sight. I think both of them have independently busy lives, and not so much time to intersect "on business."

Maybe somebody deliberately inserted the phrases and then leaked it to the media? The reaction was just too quick. Whatever the case, what she said her mother told her was pretty much what my parents told me, what many good parents tell their children. It’s common advice.

The left wingers had to do something to hopefully (for them) throw a wrench into the Trump machine.

Melania’s speech was very good and she presented herself well.

Also, the MSM had to do something in order for them to ignore the mother of the American killed in Benghazi due to PIAPS. Her heartfelt agony over her son was devastating. The MSM had to scramble. Chrissy Matthews knew the impact and in his way tried to defuse. As addled as he is, he recognized the political danger to PIAPS from that speech.

With regard to political speech plagiarism, anyone from now on who ever uses the word “I” in a speech is plagiarizing Obama as that’s the word that appears most often in his speeches, imo.

Michelle’s speechwriter used to work for Hillary... and probably now works for Melania!

There is one biiiiiig difference in the words spoken. Michelle was lying......she didn’t believe in the words.......Melania does. Platitudes that we all say and believe, but the Obamas have proven they don’t believe in those words. And why wasn’t Michelle accused of plagiarizing James Bond, 8 years ago, when she said ‘your word is your bond’???

Myopic focus on this ten seconds after an entire day of outstanding speeches (like the mother of the victim in Benghazi) tells us a whole LOT about the people trying to make this a big deal.

Who gives a damn? No one who is inclined to vote for DT.

Never, ever show weakness in front of these scumbags. It’s only conroversial for those who weren’t going to vote for our side anyway. Screw ‘em.

I’m so ashamed of the media and the people who let the media indoctrinate them to be so childish, so hateful, so low in standards, that they would do what I’m hearing this morning on TV. There is NOTHING on the democratic side of the aisle, NOTHING obama or his wife ever said, that would be worth repeating or using. To see the media .. even Fox... repeat/post/broadcast such stupidity and nonsense as using that woman’s words.... Melania is so far above their pay grade....There is no comparison. God help this country with so many absolute morons available to spoil a person’s day before it began.

One more thing. .. it’s SO refreshing to see The Donald live and do, outside the box... !!

Smith is the story, not Melania; and Hillary’s employees (the media) are doing their damndest to bury the Smith speech. Don’t let the filthy low-life slugs get away with it.

Trump has to find out if she was sabotaged and get rid of that person.

Or figure out who was stupid and lazy enough to copy the speech. The people surrounding Trump are generally not stupid and lazy. But Trump is not perfect. Did Trump let us down? He promised not to let us down. I don't think he let us down here at all.

Agree. This was not Melania’s fault at all. She did very well considering this was the first time she was addressing a group this large.

It shows some of the major weaknesses of the campaign. This is simple stuff that twitter figured out in 20 minutes

I can see people picking up on the rickrolling right away (and they did on twitter) but not the Michelle plagerism. Maybe someone in the RNC leaked the speech to the media and they picked it apart and were just waiting.
