Microsoft has turned on a new set of Windows Tips that warn Windows 10 users that Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox is draining their laptop’s battery. The solution, according to the notification, is to use Microsoft Edge. We reached out to Microsoft for clarification.

“Microsoft Edge was designed exclusively for Windows 10 with features and functionality that enhance the browsing experience such as Cortana, easy sharing, reading, and researching,” a Microsoft spokesperson told VentureBeat. “These Windows Tips notifications were created to provide people with quick, easy information that can help them enhance their Windows 10 experience, including information that can help users extend battery life. That said, with Windows 10 you can easily choose the default browser and search engine of your choice.”

The 'doze OS and some browsers have yet another problem, it would appear.

Can't wait to see if it turns out to be cross-platform as well...

We reached out to Microsoft for clarification.

Probably should have reached out to Mozilla or Google for clarification instead.

I despise edge and won’t even use it on a new machine to go get Pale Moon.

I find Edge very annoying.

The features I liked and used most often either don’t exist in Edge or are hard to use.

When IE wouldn’t install in Win 10, I got Chrome. Which is something I never wanted to do, because I don’t trust anything made by Google.

I allowed Win 10 to do a free install on one of my secondary computers. It’s not terrible, but overall I don’t like it.

From over 35 years of past experience with M$, including selling their krap, they have included special “hooks” that only Edge can access - or they have established some code that will increase battery drain if competing browsers are detected being used.

M$, Hitlery and 0bozo are all equally crooked. Glad I’ve been on Linux for so many years.

I laugh reading all the latest problems with M$ as I sit and thoroughly enjoy not being beholden to them.

You know, the individual cells on that battery pack are not all dead, and some can even be rescued and successfully recharged with a bit of care.

As an extremely long term Firefox user now switching to Chrome I’m amazed how buggy Chrome is and some silly decisions Goigle made.

Downloaded Windows 10. Cannot get Edge to work. It always says..”We can’t get there from here! Restart and reload your page.” So I do, and still get the same message.

Mozilla works fine, so does Google Chrome.

I expect Windows 10 to tell me that it has “upgraded” my browser to Edge.
