I believe it is Trump's obligation, as the victor, to be the bigger man and do his part to heal the rift in the party, regardless of who one believes to be fault. That's just the way these things work. The victor must be a good winner.
Here's what he should work into his speech:
"You know, I've always enjoyed watching Ted Cruz take it to the powers-that-be in Washington. He's a man of deep conservative principles --- and a complete pain in the ass.
I don't enjoy it much when he's a pain in my ass.
But he's OUR pain in the ass.
And he's right about one thing in particular --- and said the most important thing you've heard at this convention --- vote for the man who will uphold the Constitution, believes in liberty and freedom, and who will return this fine country to greatness.
Well, I give my word to Ted, and I give my word to you. Indeed, I swear by G-d, on my life and the life of my children and grandchildren, that I will uphold the Constitution. I believe in liberty and freedom, and I will return this fine country to greatness."
The result would be a healing of the rift, the NeverTrumpers would shut up, and Cruz and Trump could work together, which they will need to do.
And Jesus got crucified. That was not the last we heard about them, or in Jesus’ case, from him either.

Basically Trump is getting about 80% of Republicans. It’s not a disputed fact.

That’s a curious connection, but I can’t fault Ted directly that his father was a rogue (by one report, before he turned to God and began being a preacher). Ted has never written bitter, seething screeds about JFK.
I would wonder what Ted did with dominionism, however. This jumps the gun on the time line of the New Testament, to put it mildly.

Each side gets four days to script their headlines to move people in their direction. As soon as the Republican convention ends, Hillary will name her VP and the Democratic convention will start.

I’m probably not the guy to be talking about the Christian messiah.
Trumps only obligation is to the people. He doesn’t owe the cruzbots, or the bush bots, or the GOPe a damn thing. Up until the convention those factions have done everything in the book (the Alinsky book) to stop him. The people prevailed, in overwhelming numbers.
In a race, it’s good sportsmanship for the losers to congratulate the winner, not for the winner to coddle and apoligize for winning.
In politics, there is no trophy for just “showing up”.
The people have spoken, now you should stop trying to build a “safe space” for sore loser Cruz, and focus on keeping Clinton out of the WH.
You're off by about 1,000%. Most his former supporters jumped Lyin' Ted's bandwagon a while ago, and lots more ran away from him after his shameful performance last night. The few left are statistically insignificant.
I don’t disagree with your post, at all. This is not, however, about what is “owed” anyone.
This is about getting the 20% holdouts to show up and vote.
Jesus came to persuade. He never could cram a blessing down the throat of someone who would not accept.
Trump has been completely gracious regarding Cruz for the last couple of months, and Cruz has completely misread the lay of the land. He’s got to step away for a while, and not give Hillary Rodham Clinton anything else to retweet.

My son is one of them.
He’s voting for Gary Johnson. I’m still hopeful he’ll come around but this convention hasn’t helped.
