13 signs your coworker is a psychopath

Bullying isn't just for school kids on the playground.

Andrew Faas, a former senior executive with Canada's two largest retail organizations, found this out the hard way when he blew the whistle on a corrupt colleague, and subsequently had his phone and email hacked and even received an anonymous death threat.

To help others, Faas says in his new book, " The Bully's Trap," any worker being hired or promoted in a supervisory position should be required to take a psychological test.

What would it test for? The 20 signs listed in the Hare Psychopathy Checklist, as developed by renowned psychologist Robert Hare.

A psychopath may not show all he signs, but they will likely demonstrate at least some of them, Faas says.

Here are 13 sign that one of your coworkers may be a psychopath, from Hare's checklist, Faas, and articles we found on Psychology Today:

"I think the most telling sign is their sadistic nature," Faas says.

A psychopath motivates others through fear, rather than respect, he says, and they intend to destroy rather than correct.

I work with a guy that I distrust. He displays at least 6 of the traits. He is a liar. Rules don’t apply to him. He is cunning and manipulative. He was a kid involved in stealing and petty crime (he let that slip out). His long term goals, as he tells the bosses, are unrealistic. He shows no remorse or guilt.

The worst part is that he is getting promoted and might be my boss.

100% percent my opinion and nothing more after observing humans for more than 70 years:

Every human who has lived, is living now or who will ever live was/is/will be psychologically imbalanced in one fashion or another.

We all have our little quirks/idiosyncrasies. The only question is, "How bad is a particular idiosyncrasy and can the person with the idiosyncrasy control it so that it does not become a major behavioral problem?"

You are exactly correct. However, the distinction lies in frequency and duration (says me with no clinical experience). Someone who exhibits those traits otherwise would be considered pathologic.

Hillary can be very charming. You are immune becaise you see through her.

All pro-abortion politicians and all pro-abortion voters are psychopaths. Their party is the Psychopathic Party.

Most Catholic bishops are psychopaths. Two-thirds of those in office from 1960 to 2002 enabled sex abusers under their authority.

As a long time manager in the business/finance world, I didn’t respect any of my employees until they earned it. I worked with people very well, but if I had to fire somebody I did. What is this person trying to say?

Well done, Paladin2. Add Bill to the equation 1 + 1 = 2 psychopaths and you get the Greatest Crime Couple in the history of this fabulous republic.

“I worked with people very well, but if I had to fire somebody I did.”

It is important to fire people who are damaging the organization or who don’t get along with customers or coworkers. Keeping them on causes good people to leave. It demotivates those who stay. A prime example is keeping an alcoholic, or worse, promoting him.
