We used to have a Crocodile Hunter. Is there an Alligator Gar Hunter?
To: Red Badger
Huge fish. The Gator Gar does not taste very good to people?
I’m already guessing they are not carnivorous of dangerous to humans.

In a few years, we will be seeing this played out on cable....

It’s supposed to be here...........

They are really docile. I have reached out of my boat and touched them. The look fierce, but they aren’t...............

Lost count of the number of gar I killed while growing up, though I never saw one even close to the size pictured.
The standard drill when catching one was to cut the line and throw it up on the bank to suffocate.
The meat was worthless, you didn't want to tangle with those teeth trying to retrieve your hook, and you sure didn't want to ever catch it again.

Damn..., I used to spend my summers at my Grandparents' place in Naples, FL (about 40 acres). The regular activity was to "Pop" Gar in the creek with my single shot .22! They decimated the Bass and Brim population and we "Evened the Odds"!

I hate gar and will kill them with anything nearby, if they land on one of my hooks...

It probably just ate a cow and wasn't interested in your hand. :)

They are not dangerous.
They have a habit of jumping out of the water for unknown reasons and at unpredictable times.
The only time I’ve ever heard of one hurting somebody was when one jumped out of the water in front of a jet-ski and there was a collision.....................
