Traditional Ukrainian dress is both ornate and very beautiful. I have a mans rubasha which is very handsome.
When I was a kid, I used to love to walk down the streets on the Lower East side and the East Village where there was a Ukrainian neighborhood.
There were a few stores that had wonderful window displays of a multitude of very wide bolts of embroidered borders that the women would sew onto their clothing for their traditional dress. They also had colorfully embroidered blouses both for men and ladies.
I used to bug my mom to go in but she said no, prob knew she’d never get me out of there!
We would stop at the Odessa coffee shop for stuffed cabbage for lunch.
That neighborhood is probably all hipsters now.
