SPARTANBURG, SC (WLTX, AP, WSPA) - The Spartanburg County Coroner's Office says a baby that was fed a teaspoon of salt has died.
The child passed away Wednesday. Her mother, 23-year-old Nicole Martines, is charged with felony child abuse, according to WSPA.
Deputies say Martines gave her 17-month-old daughter Peyton the salt, which poisoned the child. An incident report says the mother woke up in the middle of the night when the child screaming. The woman told authorities the child appeared to be having seizures.

Hard to believe just one teaspoon would do this.

Not really.
Kids are both tough and fragile at the same time. And that much salt given all at once to a small child can cause salt poisoning.

Yeah. There have been a couple of cases where the mom gave the kid undiluted formula thinking that it would keep them full longer and it caused salt poisoning.
Sadly does not sound like it was the case here.

That much salt to a baby can shut down the kidneys along with other vital organs.

looked it up : 0.5 to 1 g/kg will be toxic in most patients. 15 kilos= 38 pounds - ok were getting close to toxic.

It is supposed to be a spoonful of sugar not salt to help the medicine go down...

Solicitor Barry Barnette told local media outlets that Martines fed the toddler salt to try to win back her husband's affection. The two are separated. Arrest warrants say a pediatrician was concerned in November because Peyton was not gaining weight. But Martines ignored the doctor's referrals to a specialist and an agency that helps babies with developmental delays.
According to the above, the mother murdered her baby to win back the love of her husband. If true, she should be slowly tortured and then executed.
