The husband of an Ohio schoolteacher, who was severely injured when four men dropped a rock on her car from a highway overpass, killed himself late Saturday night – and the prosecutor who jailed the rock-throwers blames them for Randy Budd’s suicide.

Budd, 55, was pronounced dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at his Ohio residence, Harry Campbell, chief investigator for Ohio’s Stark County Coroner’s office, told the AP on Sunday.

“Randy Budd did not die from a gunshot,” Union County District Attorney D. Peter Johnson told pennlive.com. “He died when those kids threw a rock through his windshield.”

Another jackass braying.

I don’t think you should call her, or anyone, a jackass. This site should be above that.

I was referring to you because your use of the word "coward". In a later post you, I believe, modified it to selfish. We are in agreement with that term.

I used the term jackass to describe you because that was what I was when I would bray out "coward" when I heard of someone that committed suicide. Then I learned different.

Good point. Direct it towards those responsible.

My wife was driving on a well-maintained, lighted road in Tempe, Arizona years ago. When she went under an underpass of a railroad track, some punk thug(s) dropped a grapefruit-sized rock into the front windshield of her car.

The rock shattered the windshield, glanced off my wife's thigh and ended up on the floorboard. Except for a bad bruise and some abrasions she received, she was physically unhurt. Shook her up emotionally pretty bad.

She reported the incident to the local police but nothing ever came of it. But she was haunted by that experience for several years. And never, ever went under that same underpass again.

I hope they throw the book at these criminals. Cowardly lowlifes.

Then you ran into a different group of rock throwers.

I certainly did run into a different group, because this happened to me in 99. I was robbed by the toll attendant in 2001.

Really research this defensive position. Vehicular defense with a firearm is very touchy. You can never, under any circumstance, fire a weapon from a moving vehicle. Not even police can do this.

I carry in the car, we all do. But discuss your tactics at length before you have to do it.

Don’t worry. I have.

I will not even brandish a weapon unless I think my, or my passengers’ physical safety is at risk.

My biggest fear is forgetting it is there when I REALLY do need it.

But I’m curious. If John Wayne can shoot while riding a horse, why can’t I shoot while driving a car? :-)

The laws were written back in the days when the drive-by shooting was the popular thing. So we’re going back to 1988.

Its not at the forefront of legal mumbo-jumbo, but we saw it with George Zimmerman - the goal of the prosecuting attorney is not to prove who is right or who did just things. It’s to put you behind bars.

And the anti-gun left legal system is designed to use whatever they need to do get you locked up.

When you defend from the moving car, the first thing prosecution will deliver is evidence that you endangered those around you. What is behind your target, your muzzle control and accuracy issues will all be delivered to the judge to get you locked up.

They’ll always attempt to bring in an expert to talk about the chances of pulling off successful shots given terrain, distance and firing position.

(me)I would tell you all of the above and more, and if you still insisted he was a coward, THEN I would kick your ass, and take you to the library.

(you)Yeah, I bet your husband is all excited about your threats. I know I'm not.

(me)You, however, could learn a little bit about empathy.

(you)I have empathy. I've heard, at 20+ years of AA meetings stories that would rival whatever your husband went through. They are alive today and didn't take their own lives. Some died and some took their lives. I've heard it all. From diseases to being locked up as a sex slave and they stayed alive to tell their stories so others could learn - and empathize.

(you)Sorry, your husband is dead. (I CANNOT BELIEVE YOU SAID THAT. DID YOU MEAN TO BE SO COLD, OR IS YOUR PUNCTUATION JUST A TAD OFF? )Your scorn and anger don't really faze me. Perhaps if you'd explained yourself better in the first place you wouldn't be making childish threats of violence on FR.

If you still think you want to "kick my ass" so be it. I have more class than to even think about an older woman fighting over name calling let alone participate in it.

I was not aware that I had to explain myself. I was not aware that you hold the list of acceptable behaviours.

And really, I was NOT aware that you are the judge of whether a person's circumstances warrant their suicide. I did not know that there was a scale for all to be judged by.

In my continuing effort to educate you regarding empathy, let me give you some advice. Each person's life is different, with different sets of difficulties. An empathetic person realizes this, and doesn't presume to quantify or judge another's journey. An empathetic person may hold up a map, hold the flashlight, or walk on the path along side you. An empathetic person wouldn't dare (as you have done) to quantify another's disasters. You might want to think about that.

As for my (empty) threats to have you step outside, of course you ignored the part about educating you and chose to point out the classlessnes.

If someone spoke to your wife the way you've spoken to me, I hope to God you would at least *think* about asking them to step outside. I know my husband would, and after considerable talking on my part, he would never had hit anyone. Matter of fact, I don't believe he ever hit anyone, he was a talker. Yeah, he had to hold ME back a few times, thank God.

You spoke disparingly of my husband and crassly to me. Since DH is no longer here to defend me,(but oh my! did he ever leave me the tools to take care of myself!)I'm getting pretty good at standing up for myself.

You've shown yourself to be petty and cold. But that wasn't good enough, was it? You had to play the age card! Perfect. MAJOR LIFE HINT: The first rule of holes is : stop digging. Or, in your case, you may cease speaking to me at any time. buh bye!

1 Corinthians 5:12
For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?

I wasn't the one who quoted Christian scripture first. But I will now.
